Description When you come across a super inspiring stock image (visualhunt.com/photo/53294/ ) but you have no idea what to do with it. X)
It's one of those artworks that ended up being quite a lot of work yet the result is still somewhat meh. At least that's what I think about it. Hope you like it anyway!

Ok. I'm a big fan of Greek Mythology. according to the original myths, Tartarus was the personality and spirit of the deepest part of the underworld; it means "pit of evil." However, this reflects the complete opposite... just a breathtaking birds-eye view of a city either in the mountains or in the ocean..i can't tell. The presence of clouds tells me the mountains since clouds don't form well over the ocean. Can't really tell what's going on with the bird's feathers (?) coming off the tail. The background is hazy, I think deliberately, which is a good trope in art...draws the eye to the foreground and midground. I could believe this city is like the others that I've seen you draw.
It took me a bit but I didn't notice the hands clawing their owner out of hell. It could be Kronos or another titan. It could also refer to an even older time, during the so-called "silver age" and could represent a Cyclops or Hundred-Handed One escaping from Kampe.
The hands could also be a trans-myth: the difference in what the hands look like could point to Hel: a Norse goddess. Why the different hands? Supposably when Loki and the giantess, Angbroda, had a child the brood was all monsters: a giant wolf, a giant eel and Hel, a terrifying goddess who was half beautiful woman(hand on the left), and(the terrifying part) half desiccated corpse. Hel hated the human world: Middle Earth. She preferred Jotunheim and is responsible for a slew of evil /jotun entering the Human world. She also hated Asgard: the home of the gods. Her father abandoned her to die in Niflheim, the land of ice and the dead, but instead, she became queen of the dead and made Helheim: the place of eternal torture and damnation.
Dragging a city to hell(off of her name) perfectly represents Hel's hatred for humanity... and every other living thing.

I'm sorry for the late reply! I didn't see it before thanks to the new Eclipse design that I switched to a few days ago. It's so confusing...!

Anyway, thanks for this awesome critique. Interesting interpretation of the two different hands, and btw - nice work catching that detail. My original (boring) idea is that it's two titans in the pit, but your theory is much more interesting! That's what I love about art. It's open to people's interpretations.

I'm glad you like it! Happy holidays if you celebrate them!

Good to see creativity isn't dead on Deviantart, This is stunning and very hard to criticize. I could see this being used for a movie poster and since I'm a big fan of science fiction, it'd be a movie I would see. I'm trying to look for flaws in this and I'm failing. Perhaps the Critique after me will find one(doubtful). This is one of the best artwork I've seen on this site in the past year. Believe it or not I'm actually good at knitpicking, so if there was a detail off or discoloration, I would have spotted it. Speaking of details, this has so much of it, especially love the birds feathers. Adds a vivid atmosphere to a fictional picture. I would like to note, that I've actually never seen this artists artwork. But one picture was enough to convince me to keep up with his work. And that speaks volumes to the talent behind this artist.

Definitely would like to see you do a dinosaur piece... considering how you like putting big things in front of small things xD
