Shut up, I can't think of good titles anymore.
This is my part of the trade with *grendylgirl . This is her character, Alys. She is a sort of reptialian bird.
I've only draw "realistic" birds twice in my life. So third time, when I was asked to do this, I was less confident than I should have been, but the result isn't as bad as I thought it would be
Getting it to look like feathers, was hard. But I hope you like it, Grendyl!And I probably messed a lot of the lighting up P: Shush. I worked on this from 8:30 to 11:10 last night. It was the only time I could sneak on that computer.
Now I'm off to Spotlight to buy shirt paints!

well the proportions of the bird ARE a little off... :/ but it's hard to tell; the eyes are drawn to the colors more strongly.

Eek, where? You are right, I know it. This is my third time drawing a bird and I hardly know where to start looking for errors. I think the body looks a little strange for one. Yeah, I think you're right about colour drawing attention, because it's all people commented on xD

Oh well it's what you're inspired by! Recently my friend let me have a look through manga books that someone lent her and I think I've really gotten interested in the style myself! XD

oh, manga is such a curious type of art. i remember reading manga on Fullmetal Alchemist. well, i've watched the anime and got pretty absorbed with it. it doesn't allow to modify the story with your own characters though. but the story is SO perfect and so beautiful.. there is no need in that

Oh you mean like IZ? xD I think that is the only show so far I've watched that allowed room for your own characters. I've seen only one other show that allowed room for that, and it was Sonic. I've never watched it but it doesn't seem like my kind of TV show! I haven't read or watched Fullmetal Alchemist, but it is one of the manga book series my friend borrows, so I could always ask her if I could look at it. Really though, I haven't seen many mangas or animes at all. Just Death Note.. which REALLY was captivating!

and about own characters.. i found a magnificent thing in Dragonball Z (i love this show :3). they go like "2 years passed", "7 years passed". eeh ^___^ so epic, i can just think of whatever i want in the mean time.

Oh I haven't watched that in years, I'd love to say I know that show, but I hardly remember the good features because it was on when I was too young to remember! *_* Ooh a romantic story with whom?

well, i love romantic stories, but there are so much other females that go BOO on my creations. and then the language (i try to write it in the "native" language i've heard the story in, english). and it's far from perfect. that's why i don't dare, always afraid of mistakes i could've made and didn't see XD. that's why i never dare.
romance can be shown in many ways. friendship and help too, not exactly romantic, but it can be just beautiful.
and uhm.. won't tell ya xD. i'm thinking to draw that "couple" (it's a weird situation, more like soulmates).
hm btw, DBZ is all about fighting and hardly has any romance or anything. it's made for guys and guys don't care about cheesy stuff xD. all fighting and manly stuff lol ^^

For the title, I just looked up "shades of red" in Wikipedia and looked for any that started with an A to match the bird's name xD Otherwise I had no clue what else to call it besides "the red bird" or something.

Wow this is...Just..SPECTACULAR!
I seriously am astounded with your talent here! Such a beautifully done bird. The color is such a soft red, it's not too intense or too faded, it's just the perfect shade with the perfect shading and highlights. The lighting is really nice and man...the feathers look so soft that I'd like to touch them! ^^
If I have to give critique, I would critique the branch. It looks pretty rushed and I don't like how the highlight runs into the foot of the bird.
Everything else is in tippy-top shape. I love the lilac flowers, it gives the picture more bedazzle than just a tree branch with a moon. I mean it REALLY compliments the picture. This is really is worth a DD suggestion but I'd like you to fix that highlight going into the foot first before I suggest it. I'd also like to see a little more color in the sky even though I see a red and black gradient it isn't that evident. If you brought it out a little more, that would be the icing on the cake. ^^
Man, seriously your skills amaze me, I cannot wait to see a coloring tutorial from you! Wow the lineless realistic works from you really pop out for me. I mean it's just that fantabulous!! I am running out of good adjectives now.

Oh shizz, there is so a highlight! Once again, there is something I failed to notice. I think perhaps, before submitting I should have them checked by you, because I actually went straight to sleep after working on that for so long XD I could blame my drowsiness, or I can blame me working too quickly. I do rush a lot.
Oh hell no, not a DD xDD Those people who get them are seriously pros. This is far too messy. For the colours of the flowers, I really didn't know which one to use! They where originally more reddish, but it took too much. I didn't want to make them too opposite on the colour wheel. That's what is really hard when colouring, you don't want to make the colours look too odd and uncomfortable to the eyes.
I'm working on that tutorial! I sort of have troubles with writing down instructions. Like, explaining things is a bit hard with me, because I put sentences in strange ways, and I really do want to make it as simple as possible, because it really is simple to colour like that. The brush I used was the dingy Crayon brush that was provided in SAI
