Description Recently somebody posted on the egl community about Wa-Lolita and I was reminded of my love for tacky ita-esque Wa-Lolita outfits back in the days before I had really gotten into Lolita. My love for them thankfully vanished when I saw these dresses in real life at cons and realised how awful they actually were.
Anyway, that person posted some really nice Wa-Lolita outfits and fell back in love with Wa-Lolita again, only this time not with the extremely ita stuff.

So, with this drawing I'm trying to do my very own approach on Wa-Lolita. What do you say? I had a hard time deciding on colours.

If you like it, I'd be very happy if you voted for me at this month's banner art contest on egl. That means, if it gets accepted as a contest entry. I hope it's lolita enough.

I originally inteded to make her look pissed but now she looks more sad... doesn't she?

After this I'm trying to submit more artwork with backgrounds. My gallery looks really poor with all these blank backgrounds OTL

Haha, I see what you mean. It's supposed to be an usamimi-bow, but I guess I overdid it with the lenght.

I love love love the colour scheme! I also really love the way you shade! it's so smooth and crisp!
If this was an actual dress I would totally buy it >w<
and I feel like her expression is almost kinda like a "come at me bro" type thing. Like just because she's in a super pretty dress, doesn't mean she can't still totally kick someones ass... you know? xD

Anywho this is super awesome :3

Thank you so much! I always try hard to achieve a good shading.
And yesss, the "come at me bro"-expression is exactly what I wanted her to look like

Oh gosh you're welcome!
and you totally succeed it looks awesome! I usually try to as well, I'm just always paranoid my ink will run out ;~;
And I'm glad she turned out perfect then!

Yup, I know what you mean, running out of ink is the WORST. That's why I only draw little pictures recently, haha (the ink and the fact that it takes less time)

I'm so bad at working small, my hands always shake a little so I end up going outside the lines ;~;
So i usually work on 8x10, :3

I love the prints on her clothing, they look like they could be either traditional kimono patterns or Lolita prints! And her expression reads as "wistful" to me, which I think is a very good expression in Lolita artwork. It's lovely.

I'm happy you think so! I was trying to choose a pattern that fits both because I think one of the most tricky parts of Wa-Lolita is keeping the balance between Lolita and Kimono.

I think that's absolutely the trickiest part. It's people who can't find the balance who end up making it more "Japanese costume" than "Lolita fashion".
