Katie felt the rush of wind against her face as she pedaled furiously down the street. She was late and her mom was going to kill her. Desperate to make up time, she made a sharp turn to the right and headed down a narrow path that ran alongside an old, overgrown field.

This was no ordinary shortcut. It was THE shortcut, the one that had been whispered about in hushed tones for years. The one that led past the infamous Crenshaw place. The place where people went in, but never came out. Where the echoes of screams still lingered in the night air. Some people even said the place was haunted! But Katie didn't believe in ghosts. Or did she?

Still, as she rode past the old fence of the abandoned farmhouse, she couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of her stomach. She pedaled faster, not daring to look back until she had safely reached the other side.

As she rode past the house, she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. But just as she thought she had made it, she saw the bridge up ahead was out. With no other option, she would have to turn back. Could she make it past that spooky old house one more time?
