Description I had been wanting to do a painting that had a lot of contrast in it, so this is my attempt at that. It has the title that it does because I think there's both dark and light in everyone. I tried to express that dichotomy visually with this piece. Also, though it's very loosely based on an image of Amber Heard I found on Google images, it's not really a portrait of anyone in particular.

Brush credit:
I used a brush set that has lots of Celtic symbols in the background, but I downloaded that a long time ago and don't remember where I got it unfortunately. If you know, please shoot me a note and I'll credit it here.

I love how beautiful her hair is (I like where it drapes over her shoulder the most)

Really, really nicely done, sir. I love the expression you managed to capture, an the Celtic touches you put throughout (and the little tattoo by her eye). You put some great detail in her visible iris, too. She looks really intriguing and natural, and I think you did really well with the shading and light. (The only hitch I might give thought to there is that the right side of her hair, with the light, is just about the same as the left side, which should be more in shadow).

I love her brows and how well you handled the tilted angle of her face -- I don't think that's an easy thing to get right all the time. And I like how light you made her clothing, with the one strap falling forward. It's a very enticing detail, without getting raunchy by any measure.

All in all, just great work (as usual).

Man I can never tell if I'm replying to you or leaving an orphan comment on my own pic. I think I did it incorrectly the first time, so I hid that comment and I'm trying to send you my reply. Apologies if you get this twice lol. Here's what I wrote:

Hey thanks Kevin! Super glad you liked it. Also, thanks so much for the tip on the hair; I hadn't even realized that. I guess we look at the same thing for so many hours our mind glosses over things sometimes. I was going to do an update anyway. My daughter thought it'd be a nice touch to put a hint of red somewhere in there and a co-worker told me that the right side might be a bit too bare. So glad you mentioned the hair. I'll update that while I'm at it (-:

Yeah, it's not always easy to tell the two apart. But this one, at least, was done correctly.

Glad I was able to be of help -- the whole thing looks really good, but it'll be cool to see how it turns out when you put in those extra touches. Sometimes little details like a splash of color or extra highlights can really take a piece to the next level.

And it's really cool that you can get input from your daughter -- that's a great kind of relationship to have.
