Elorviel — Paladin Armor Concept

Description A concept I'd been slowly working on from time to time of paladin armor I think would be neat for World of Warcraft. Anytime I think about paladins in general, I think of shiny armor in silver and gold. I think they would look super flashy in battle not just in their abilities but also in their armor.

I wish that games weren't confined to keeping the shape of the female models sometimes. So instead of defining this paladin's feminine features, I decided to instead create the breastplate as if it were made for a man.

The "wings" on the back are inspired by medieval Polish Hussar armor, but instead of being attached in some way, I feel it would be more World of Warcraft if they were enchanted and floated behind the paladin. Of course, you can't really see that at the angle in which I painted this, but that's how it's supposed to go.

Roughly 7 hours, give or take. Photoshop and a cintiq used.

EDIT: Balanced out the shield.

Awesome design! I like the feather-like details--and the reasoning behind the shape of the breastplate. My husband and I actually just had a discussion about typical female armor designs, and how they tend to be absolutely impractical; by emphasizing the breast shape, the artist/armorsmith isn't only emphasizing the feminine shape, but also basically forming a metal funnel that leads straight into the wearer's chest. It's like a big "AIM HERE" sign! xD

Hussar, huzzah! Your painterly style never ceases to amaze me, and it's great to see how much time you put into your pieces.

"The "wings" on the back are inspired by medieval Polish Hussar armor" oh, ok xD

That's a very beautiful design, very elegant too. I like the idea with the floating wings and I'm currently googling the polish armor you mentioned, I hadn't seen pictures of those before. I wish they would make more armor like this ingame.

One little nit-picky crit though: The shield looks as if its larger part would be above the holding-straps which in turn makes it look somewhat off-balance - and probably rather awkward to carry in reality, I would imagine.

PS: Before I forget, I am impressed by your way of painting chain-mail. It consists only of small overlapping triangles but at the same time looks so 3dimensional and shiny. Especially her right arm is beautiful.

I definitely see what you are saying with the shield. I knew something was bothering me about it, but I could never quite put my finger on it. Thank you so much! I'm going into photoshop to fix it now.

Cool!

It would look awesome wandering the aisles of a ComicCon if you ever did it up for reals.

Haha creating this would be WAY out of my league, but it would look so cool in real life.
