I wouldn't know the subtle differences (English not being my first language) so I don't know what to say about that.
(Don't get me wrong - I do recognise American and English/Scottish accents from each other, haha!)

But anyway, I still like his earlier works better. Maybe it's because I'm a happy joking person and prefer his silly roles.

I like House too, I just find it a bit strange that Hugh is suddenly American after seeing him in British comedy shows.

Well, perhaps it's not just people for outside of the U.S... but they seem to know more about Hugh Laurie than people here, so naturally, they find it odd for him to be doing such a serious role (and with an accent, no less).

I know I was surprised to find out he's actually British. It was when he was accepting his (very well-earned) Emmy and he was speaking in his normal, English-y voice. I was bowled over!

That's like when I found out David Tennant was Scottish. A comic relief episode of the Catherine Tate Show... he was "subing English class" and walks in with a Scottish accent. Then I watched backstage clips of his shows and was like "What the!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
And I saw Hugh in Sense and Sensibility. Very good job, that.

Well, at least now you know then I'm glad since a lot of people here too don't know about his Britishness either, only the ones who've seen the earlier shows he has been in and done the 1+1 - thing


Myself, I knew about Hugh's existance since they showed the Black Adder on TV here in 1998 and I thought he was just awesome! And he still is.
