Hm, I should perhaps edit the whole description of this picture and not mention H. Laurie at all.

I find it hilarious that most Americans watch House and the the Brit Coms and say "wow, Huge Laurie has a pretty good English accent... for an American" (as ~mistress-samwise pointed out, most don't know he's a Brit)
And all the Brits watch him on House and say "Wow, he has a pretty good American accent... for an Englishman"
I love him all round...

I wouldn't know the subtle differences (English not being my first language) so I don't know what to say about that.
(Don't get me wrong - I do recognise American and English/Scottish accents from each other, haha!)
But anyway, I still like his earlier works better. Maybe it's because I'm a happy joking person and prefer his silly roles.

That's like when I found out David Tennant was Scottish. A comic relief episode of the Catherine Tate Show... he was "subing English class" and walks in with a Scottish accent. Then I watched backstage clips of his shows and was like "What the!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
And I saw Hugh in Sense and Sensibility. Very good job, that.
