Here we are, at the start of another story arc. This one isn’t likely to run quite as long, but I have a number of funny ideas with this one. The only problem with this plan is the fact that I’m committing myself to drawing lots of difficult amusement park backgrounds over the next few months. But I think it’ll be worth it. I dunno. I hope it’ll be worth it. I’m not even sure what ‘it’ is worth, really.

Well, I'm hoping that it translates to a wider audience, and not just our southern Ontario brethren. My (mostly American) readership seemed to get the basics of the joke, if not the nuances.

Specific is general. The more personal you get, the more people will relate. I believe this to be true. I have pretty great memories of visiting 'Funderland,' specifically my first time in Smurf's village, back when they were in vogue. Then eating a burger in a Flintstone's car as a picnic table. That was genuinely fun. That was age 10-13. At age 18, I drove there on a Friday night with a girlfriend (we took drives on the weekends instead of getting drunk/stoned like normal kids did), and got approached by security who, I assume, thought we were going to try to break in, but we just wanted to see what it looked like in off-season. By the next time I went, Paramount had taken it over! Tom Cruise over drive.

I remember all those landmark moments. This version in the comic, by the way, will still include an off-brand version of Smurf Village.

The janky Canadian equivalent of Disney World is more like a Six Flags: it's all about the roller coaster. And it's not Phoebe's thing. But more on that in coming strips.
