A piece from this semester's drawing class. This is actually my second piece I did. My first piece is on display at school so I do not have anything to post of that just yet. Sorry for the funny fish-eye look. It is too big for scanner and the camera is acting up. And yes, it is matted.The object of this assignment was to study and utilize Wayne Thiebaud's style. Or one of his many. This paricular style he would use on subjects that were "goodies" like pies and cake and ice cream. I went for the donuts. What can I say. But hey, I actually didn't crave them the whole time I was drawing this. Only when I was done. Anyway...
He used a lot of "unnatural" colors to line the subjects and made his shadows blue. Even then, they still turned out realistically. I really dreaded this project until over half way through. I think it was the subject matter. I mean, still lifes are ok but food? I was not so thrilled. Though I do kinda like the end result.

I like this picture a lot! ^^ Food is not exactly the greatest of subjects, but putting it in an interesting color scheme and style makes it better. Good job! Glad you're posting your artwork from your classes.

Thank you! You know, I think my worse subject in drawing is landscapes. I can sketch them but to make them look real, that I just cannot do. Painting sure! Drawing, not so much.

For me I'd say, people is the worst...although I don't have much experience drawing them. Haha, for me it's the opposite. Drawing sure, but painting is not so great. Probably because you can't erase anything.

Eh, guess it depends on the medium of paint. I was referring to oils. They are actually quite forgiving. Though you cannot erase, you and wait until it is dry then go right over it. I think drawing is harder cause it is harder to layer stuff like you can with paint.

Haha, well paint makes nervous. I don't know much about painting, or how to mix colors so that's probably why I don't ever use it. My preferred drawing tool is an ebony pencil, so most of what I do is value drawings. I agree, the layering is quite hard especially on the drawing I'm working on now. It has lots of dark folds in the clothing, which is hard to eventually achieve the folded texture of it.

Yeah, I didn't/still don't like painting much but I had a class so it helped understand the medium and all. I much prefer my Prismacolor pencils. That or painting in Photoshop.

Food isn't fun but the teacher says that is where jobs are so get use to it. Meh. Well, now I know I can do it and if there is money involved, then maybe. And thanks!
