Description Basic color scheme here. My final submission for GodzillaSamurai's contest will probably have more muted colors, but I like vibrant sea creatures... so, there you have it.

Damn you have drawn some of the most kickass Monsters I've freaking seen ever... How exactly do you usually come up with the designs?

Well, for something like this, I had some inspiration pop into my mind right off the bat for the general shape and a few major details. After that, I just sketch things in roughly and kind of let my mind wander as I feel out the details. I like the design as I go along, and that obviously lends itself well to drawing organic things like this. I try my best to stay original and avoid anything that's been done before, but it's not easy.

Thanks for the comments and faves. I really appreciate it.

Thanks. Yeah, I need to get working on the parasites and some other shots of this guy if I want to have a chance at winning the contest.

this looks great! I really like the transition from the turquoise (turquoise?) to the underside color, it's really amazing. I love the fleshy folds too, they remind me of the gyri in the brain. very brainy piece, haha.

And thanks to you, I learned a new word today: GYRI.

I'm glad you like the color transition. In my opinion that's what sells the whole piece. I just wonder if I've played my trump card too soon, because now I can't rely on that color scheme for a while. Le sigh...

Btw, I'm thinking you might call this "aquamarine" rather than turquoise, but it's close. It's the green that tips it over to the AQ side. But then again, I think I may be a little color blind, so whatever.

aquamarine! that's the one I wanted.

hahaha, I love the idea of coming up with basic color schemes and recycling them. very clever.

I thought it looked like two types - nice attention to detail

Yeah, I figured if he's aquatic... he's gotta have barnacles. By that reasoning, Godzilla should be covered with them I sense a new fanart piece on its way.

But yeah, two types of barnacles: Acorn and Goose Neck.
