Description I needed a burn in test for my new computer. I just built an i7-5960X beast and I figured that rendering something with lots of shiny bits would serve as a good load test while I was tuning in the overclock. So, I rendered this, over and over again for a few days. I call her (and the computer) Andromeda.Β

Thank you, glad you like it!

That tentacle is a really oldΒ Stonemason freebie. I don't think it's available for download from his website anymore unfortunately. You may have some luck with the way back machine, but that thing is hard to track down.Β

May I ask how much ram did you had and how long did it take to render this one image?

Oh heavens... I'm trying to think about the render stats on this. I want to say this rendered out in 10-12 hours... I'm pretty sure I just let it run overnight. It probably didn't need to render that long, but I just let it go.

I rendered this on a system with 16GB of DDR4 2400 (OC to 3000) but it didn't need that much RAM. I think LuxRender topped out at around 6GB of RAM for this image.

It looks awesome, and the metal settings from Reality4 look so good, you made a great render with it!! (I really have to check out the upgrade... )

Thank you

R4 does take some getting used to (at least, coming from 2.5... may be easier coming from 3) but it's pretty awesome

That.. is freaking awesome! What plugin did you use for the wings and the suit/armor? Heck, I am curious about the cable/tentacle. ^^ Excellent decision making for this. I tip my hat to you, sir. ^^

What you're seeing here is the use of Reality 4 + Lux Render. The materials for the armor, cables, wings and hover bots are all set using the "Metal" shaders. The cables, some of the bots and armor are 'custom metal' and using the native image map texture with a high polish (9500? I think) The 'eyes' of the bots are set as mirrors, and the wings were configured using a combination of custom metal and chrome pre-sets within R4.Β
