I adore whale sharks. And unexpectedly found yours. Manta Rays too.

I agree in not getting too tied up in symbolism without understanding the why behind it.

I'm still confounded by one - perhaps somewhat elusive aspect. That the inequalities are due to a patriarchal derived system, capitalism. That even sucess in a capitalistic society means that women are still dependant on a system of control built by men. We may free ourselves but we enslave those beneath us. Those in power hold money as a carrot. We get the carrot and congratulate ourselves for playing, and perpetuating their game. There are other - perhaps harder to phantom options. There must be. There must be a way to truly be free.

Sharks are actually gender equal. But it is a great comedic, I love it.

What she describes is egalitarianism. Feminism is the removal of men from society besides for the most menial and basic jobs.

That is not what feminism is about. What you are describing is what we call feminazi and is just like claiming that all anarchists are troublemakers looking for social chaos (this is not what anarchy is about) or that everyone who is religious is an extremist or a potential terrorrist.

Check this stamp: [link] and Wikipedia: [link]

Yes, there are extremely sexist women and men who call themselves feminists and no, I do not think that I've never done so because let's face it, we probably all said shit when we didn't know better (and I used to be a misogynist) but you cannot reduce feminism to THAT. Especially since every political movement is divided.

But unlike anarchists or religious practitioners, feminism's radicals and extremists are the ones in positions of power.

Unfortunately, I can. As a man, unlike you, I believe I have the right to voice my concern. Because the only effective part of feminism is the part that's destroying the family and the male role in society. The part that tells the world and each other that feminism is only for the benefit of all people are only there to make the misandric and discrimitory laws and media easier to swallow to the point of brainwashing. The easiest way to find misandry is to ask yourself "what would it be like if the sexes were flipped?" Because double standards should not exist in an ideally equal society, a society feminism had promised us from the beginning.

I am not quite sure the radical feminists are in power but then again it may depend on the country you live in. I do think the media exagerate the importance of minor movements and minorities.

I can also voice my concerns, as an anarchist. I do not view the traditional roles and family as truly important and I am concerned by legal equality. When it's obvious that I fight for women's rights as a feminist, I also fight for male rights because I believe that each individual should have the right to express their individuality beyond traditions and stereotypes as long as it does not harm anyone.

I am not quite sure what you mean by "the male role in society" to be honest, but there are and has always been men who had no wish to follow traditional gender roles and they deserve to be defended and helped instead of forced to change (which can lead to depression).

But please, tell me about these misandric laws, I'd like to learn about them, especially since we do not live in the same parts of the world.

As I am now, I feel I'm not fit enough to explain to you United States laws and society, and currently I'm not interested in French law or culture. So, I'm going to end this conversation on the basis that we are indeed from different parts of the world.

But one question, as an anarchist and a feminist, would you be open to the idea of children growing up on their own rather than in a family?

greytawnyowl In reply to Neeble [2012-12-23 10:17:37 +0000 UTC]

No, I wouldn't. The human being, as most mammals, cannot live on its own during infancy and childhood (and it's even worse for human beings since we can't even walk). However, I do think that a child can be raised by different types of family (though I still think teenagers should avoid pregnancy), it has always happened and always will.
Also, some children who are raised in traditional families still end up growing up on their own due to that strange idea that children should not be punished or told off. It may be strange to hear that from the mouth of an anarchist, but I do not believe that children are pure and innocent enough so that they can raise themselves just fine (I know, it's modern "psychology", but that doesn't mean it's true).
But of course we all need(ed) a supportive family as well as education so I really can't see children growing up on their own, that just doesn't make sense for me. It goes against the biological and psychological development of a human being (even orphans are usually being taken care of, and those who can't really find a family are not usually the happiest).

Too bad you can't tell me much about the US laws, I've only heard about them from people who had a tendency to overreact to everything (and I mean everything, a female character being called by her husband's last name caused a huge debate).
