Well, actually, there's a lot more to it. I don't know what you have seen of American football, but in most cases, it's a game of strategy. You go out there to the field without a game plan, then all you'll be seeing is 'guys with helmets throwing themselves to each other'.
And they wear protective gear to, duh, protect them. Even with the gear on, I've seen many guys get carried away in an ambulance with a broken rib or leg. It'd be a lot worse with out it on.
Just like how your football is your lifestyle, our football is ours.
Just like how baseball, gymnastics, swimming, track, hockey, you name it, is a lifestyle.
