Where did you get the gold trim on the buttons

What a beautiful coat! It looks so authentic!

How much would a coat like this cost?

I think I spent a couple hundred on supplies alone...

interesting take on the trim. I recognize the pattern. I have a red one I just recently modified to be accurate for the 1670s/1680s

Sorry for the late response! I'm not on here as often as I used to be...

It took a while...I can't remember how many hours I put into it, but the time it took to collect all the buttons and other supplies (because I wanted it to be "just right") added at least a year to my starting production on it!

Thank you for the compliment!

What kind of velvet did you use for this? The velvet I used for mine was called 'cotton velvet', and I've seen in the stores 'royal velvet', but it doesn't have the same kind of texture this one does. I want something really dark like this so that the gold details pop out a bit more.

Sorry I'm kind of late to respond :/

I used the apparel velvet they sell at JoAnn Fabrics (as opposed to the yucky upholstery velvet they sell)--I want to say it's the "premiere" velvet, but it's always in the special occasion section on hangers rather than on bolts.

No worries.  I've checked out a few Jo-Anns stores and still haven't found a velvet I like. I used a cotton velvet for my first coat, but this time around I want something that's darker and has a bit more of a texture or pattern to it. Next time I'm up at the store I'll look for this, this is exactly the fabric I've had in mind. thanks!
