She wanted me to create a big mammalian type predator, and this is all I could really think of for a design. I have done a few variations, but I kept coming back to this one.

I call it, the Cro-ah

It stands a little taller than the average horse (maybe Clydesdale's withers height) at it's withers. Has strong powerful forelegs, back legs act as sort of springs to give the animal a long "hop run". Big chest and nostrils means it's an endurance runner, not a sprinter.

Great tracker, the big nose allows for it to pick up even the slightest scent.

The chin and neck bears is how you can tell the age of the creature.

It has a stripe down its back from the hair on the withers down to the middle of the pelvis.

Strong jaws made for crushing bones, and sharp teeth meant for stripping flesh.

The Cro-ah lives in deep wooded areas. Meadows and lakes are a hot spot for hunting grounds for these animals. They usually take down deer and moose as their main meals of choice, and a wolf is also a favorite snack , but they rarely eat wolves, as they do tend to hunt in packs.

These are very aggressive and territorial beasts, even females protect their territories as fiercely as the males. as they pick out the best places with the most food water and shelter to raise their young.

They usually have 1 to 2 babies at a time, and only breed once a year.

The males are usually bigger and darker than the females, and the females do not have the chin beard.

They have a low rumbling roar that they use to communicate to each other over distances, and a low series of grunts when in close range.

They are solitary animals.

They (like hyenas) Have a special acid in their stomachs that allows them to digest bones.

They make shelters out of either caves, knocking down small trees, or digging into the ground or hill.

Fur gets thicker dring the winter, and really think if they're in a snowy climate.

their pelts range from reddish brown, grey, light sandy brown, to deep chocolate brown. Rarely black, and occasionally albino. though the albinos do not last long, either taken off by other predators, starving to death because they are spotted by their prey, or other males kill them.
.

Males will destroy young on sight if their mother is not there to stop them.

and in harsh times (winter) mothers have even been known to commit cannibalism in order to survive.

and yeah. Thats about all i can think of for it at the moment.

ENJOY!!!

When you say mothers commit cannibalism, do you mean they eat other adults or their own young?

This reminds me of a book "After Man" of a zoologists idea of what animals would look like some 10,000 years after man's extinction. Very, very cool design, looks like a furry lycaenops mixed with a horse. Again, your artwork is incredible as always.

This is an awesome design! It is very convincing--something that is not easily achieved, and not achieved often. It looks like it could be a prehistoric mammal (they were so strange back then), and when I first saw it, I thought it was!

I will (might take a while since I am lazy). They will have a BIG part in my stories. I will change a bit of the info, mostly just making them a pack animal, but all the rest I think will stand.

Very precise work, during some minutes I felt like looking a documentary on National Geographic

Well at the very first look it's design makes me think about some kind of mountain horse (eyes design, head form). But I guess that you realize that it is a carnivore when this thing is smiling at you T T'

Good work !
