Thanks ... little do most know but I do have a degree in painting - Its a completely different thing from this though, but I really enjoy painting - I tend to find myself using paint in a more expressive and freeing manner though - I dont cover myself in it and jump onto canvasses or anything like that but I like using the pallett knife more than the brush sometimes .. there is a couple examples on my website if you are interested *

Yes ... the shading takes forever - lots of time spent with the harder pencils ... but the effect is worth it in the end - keep going and stay up *

I am amazed that this is a self-portrait! So many seem sucked dry or too self-conscious....I bet you enjoyed looking dark & dangerous among the dweebs!!
I love Arches, it has such a fabulous finish, & I've seldom seen it utilised so well! The background has a fascinating amount of detail for such a skilled portrait...the dramatic lighting really makes this a standout..

I'm greatly impressed by your realism, in this and your other drawings.
In this one I really like the light, with the long shades and the way the wallpaper pattern turnes in to rough concrete,
which gives it a more surreal look.
