Thank you! One never knows what the judges will pick so I never
participate thinking I'll win. Mostly I do because of the theme
(it was inspiring!). Faves are never an indicator of much, I've
been here long enough as to know that

I did like the theme, some times with my art I need some direction to get something good out of me.

Oh, I do think that you might win! The same I liked your work,
judges can, too! And hoping is not a bad thing
saying that I gave up hoping to win, possibly due to past experiences.
Not that I participated in many contests, probably 4-5 at the most.
I feel like you about creating... unless I have a very real inspiration
I can't create anything. Some artists can't stop creating 
I struggle to have a muse whispering something at me...
And by the way, I can't draw at all. That's why I do manipulations.
Even there, I struggle a lot with light and shadows, because I have no art
background. I only learned what I know (which is not much) here at dA...
So, you see... I really enjoy drawings and the attitude of your Unicorn
really called my attention. Minimalistic but original. That's why I think
you DO have chances!!!!

I confess I have been drawing all my life and doing two art course's have really helped with all those technical skills.
I would not give up hope. If it is something that you want to do, just know that there is always time enough to get better!
Manipulations are an art unto themselves. It is probably a bit easier if you have the basic knowledge, but no reason why you can not learn it as you go along!

Even being almost 50 years old?
My problem here is time, not lack of interest... I wish I had
more free time to learn and do tutorials and ENJOY more...
but it's not easy (I run my own business, too).
I am always so happy when I see people like you that enjoy their
drawing... Want to see how I draw?

To be fair drawing with a mouse is impossible.
My attempts at drawing with a mouse would not be much better!
Running your own business is very impressive if you ask me, I would totally fail at that!

I am very aware of my "capabilities and skills"
and it amuses me a lot.
Yes, art does take the place of a hobby (a one I do enjoy very
much), but today at the office (I have no tablet there) I was so
bored and frustrated that I needed some fun and did this one yes, with the mouse!
Possibly, Muro is like everything else... you try, discover the brushes,
have ideas of what can be done with them...and it's cool!
But of course, my other characters (presenter, lion) are still very,
very strange looking
