Description Hi guys! I'm uploading this now because I had some issues with technology last night. Here we have the first creature of the next Phase 2 "movie", King Kong Escapes. My main inspiration for the deathrunners was 's version of them, but with different colours. I'm very pleased with how this came out, as I feel like it's more dynamic than my previous KCU deviations, and making the KCU dynamic is one of my new aims. I've drawn the humans (and the oar. for some reason) as stick figures because I'm awful at drawing humans. With that said, on with the show!

Deathrunner by Ishiro Serizawa
The deathrunner (Deinodromeus Ferocitus) is one of Skull Island's most lethal predators. These creatures descended from Maniraptoran dinosaurs, it being believed that their ancestors where on the island when it was still part of Muerta and was breaking off from the mainland. The deathrunners once terrorised the entirety of Skull Island, but they came into conflict with a species of giant ape named the Megaprimatus Kong thousands of years ago due to their hunting of a human tribe named the Iwi. The Megaprimatus had a bond with the humans and so protected them from the deathrunners, led by their monstrous alpha, Gaw. Eventually, Gaw was killed, and the deathrunners were imprisoned behind a great wall that cuts off the end of Skull Island's North from the rest of the island, and so prevents the deathrunners from ever escaping. These vicious creatures are easily recognisable from their Maniraptoran body shape, their large size (they are half as tall as an adult Megaprimatus) and the permanent grin attached to their faces. The deathrunners are vicious and cruel, terrorising their victims, tearing them apart and eating them and often engaging in surplus killing. The deathrunners now live in rival clans, their forces having been shattered after Gaw's demise. Their hollow bones allow them to be incredibly fast and agile, but also make them rather fragile compared to most Kaiju. The deathrunners are also very cunning and stealthy. The last remaining Megaprimatus, King Kong himself, could not keep all the deathrunners behind the wall by himself. It seems another predator is keeping them in check...

King Kong Escapes by Ishiro Serizawa
In February 2019, when things had settled down after Operation: KVG, I decided to send a team of MONARCH agents to Skull Island to check on King Kong. This team consisted of primatologist Carl Nelson and rookies Susan Watson and Jiro Nomura. After a few days, a ship was prepared, christened the Venture II in honour of the first Skull Island expedition, the MONARCH agents, alongside many sailors, began the ship's maiden voyage across the sea's. Though the Venture II was a scientific ship, it had been given missiles and torpedoes to deal with any creatures from the Sub-Pacific Biosphere that attempted to attack. For the first two days, everything went perfectly smoothly. However, things got rather strange on the third day, when a mysterious black ship showed up, trailing the Venture II. Over the next few days, as the Venture II closed in on Skull Island, the ship tried its best to deter the black ship, which was clearly tailing the Venture II by this point. Everything from just simply trying to lose the black ship to firing flares at it, everything apart from lethal force was used. It eventually seemed the black ship was gone. However, when the Venture II reached Skull Island's North, intending to circle around to the island's South, the black ship stalked out of its hiding place and sped towards the Venture II was incredible speed before firing a storm of missiles down upon the Venture II. Now the ship had full right to strike back and so it fired its own volley of missiles, but they merely concealed the black ship in smoke. The Venture II began to rapidly retreat, it being clear that the black ship was not going to be destroyed. However, Carl, Susan and Jiro had been thrown into the sea by the attack. However, the crew of the Venture II, incredibly, continued to scour the coast for the MONARCH agents, not wanting anyone to be left behind. When Carl, Susan and Jiro found each other on Skull Island, they were close to an old boat, complete with oar, and near a river. Soon, the intrepid trio were on their way across the river, aiming to get past the legendary giant wall that cut off the North from the South and get to the Iwi village. Unfortunately, they were soon intercepted by the North's inhabitants, just when they were very close to the legendary wall. Their first clue was the dull thud of strange footsteps. And then they saw the beast, running alongside the river, hideously grinning jaw agape: a deathrunner, a carnivorous dinosaur native to the North. The beast seized the boat in its monstrous hand claws and tossed it onto the rocks next to the river. The MONARCH agents quickly got on their feet and ran back towards the boat, but the deathrunner promptly smashed it, harshly shrieking with victory. Two more deathrunners were darting across the highlands towards the MONARCH agents, hissing in anticipation. In one last desperate effort to escape, Jiro grabbed the oar and swung it at the first deathrunner's head, only for it to break in two upon impact. The distraction gave the team only a few seconds, but they bolted so quickly they actually had a head start for a little while. However, the were eventually smacked to the ground by the scaly palms of the deathrunner's hands. The giant dinosaur hissed in glee, silvery threads of drool dangling from its jaws. However, King Kong had, miraculously, been in the area. And he wasn't going to let anyone attack the humans. Despite what humans had previously done to him, Kong still loved them. He vaulted over the great wall and roared at the deathrunners. Their eyes widened in fear as they saw the Megaprimatus Kong approach them. Soon, another monstrous roar filled the sky. But it wasn't Kong's. This one was deeper, louder and far more brutal, in a way. A hulking beast soon stomped across the highlands, carried by massive, heavily muscled legs. Its gigantic head had an enormous maw filled with shark-like teeth. Its long arms ended in grasping hands armed with wickedly curved claws and its enormous tail tapered from a mass of muscle to a long, snaky tip. Its body was green with a bright red throat as attention-grabbing as a bird of paradise. This was the creature that kept the deathrunners in check. This was the mighty Gorosaurus.

The entire population would probably be able to turn Skull Island into a barren wasteland, if they weren’t all in rival groups.
