Oh my, I do like! I always knew Kaiba had a soft side. This, along with the drabble, is haunting and beautiful- in a good way of course!
I don't know if this was intended, but it looks like little Seto has some scars on his arm (maybe he did them himself? That would explain the arm-bands on Kaiba I guess). Even if it wasn't supposed to be that way I thought it was still a nice addition to the piece.
And of course that frightened look in little Seto's eyes, and Kaiba's look of 'I've been there before' caught me off guard. They're depicted fantastically.
And it made me cry when Kaiba called little Seto 'cricket'. It was very sweet and caring of him to do that, similar to how he calls Mokuba 'Mokie'.
Overall, I give you a 12 out of 10.

Thank you for the kind words - I'm beaming with joy that you liked these so much!

The scars were intended, and inflicted by his step-father - there are hints in the manga and the anime that little Seto received physical abuse (anime has the switch blade, the manga has a riding crop and a collar around little Seto's neck, hence the two lines around the neck), but since the scars are more implied than mentioned or shown, I took liberties with where to place them, and I chose his arms, under the collar, and the soles of his feet...

I'm glad you liked their eyes - the whole piece was basically centered around their expressions, me trying to see if I could convey stronger emotions and go with the mood. I'm very happy it worked out.

An addendum, about the pet name: in Hungarian, a dialect version of "cricket" ("prΓΌcsΓΆk") can also be used for children, like a pet name. That's my Hungarianness seeping in.

Thank you again for the long comment and kind words! You made my morning!

Aw, I always love your drawings! You're one of the rare people that can make silly and serious pieces and still get away with both.

I knew that Gozaburo abused Seto (I haven't gotten to that part in the manga, but I read fanfiction- I know all the spoilers ), and I think that where you placed them was perfect. Inflicting pain on the little boy, but in a manipulative way so it looks like he's hurting himself and doesn't look suspicious for Gozaburo. Very clever!

I think you did quite a good job with the expressions! That's always a tough part for me.

That's very clever! I didn't know you were Hungarian- your English is perfect! Is it because you live in America or England? But that was a nice addition to it, very fluffy.

You're welcome! It's always a pleasure to look at your work. You'll go far with it!

You make me blush so much it's ridiculous...ly awesome. Thank you! I was wondering if people would take me seriously at all after all the silliness I've showcased, but I'm glad I had the courage and post this, anyway.

I thought long and hard about where I would place scars - people seem to go all over the place with it, but I always thought that, even if we make Gozaburo out to be too rich and powerful not to be able to get away with almost anything, he does have a reputation to uphold, and him and his family would be in the public eye every now and again, so I imagined he would inflict scars in places that are hard to see, but Seto would know they are there and will stay there - places that only the people closest to him would get to see if they got close enough. In my story that I'm still translating, he has some under his jaw, so unless he tilts his head back, you can't see them since they stay in the shadow of his jaw line. Glad you picked up on the idea - glad I made sense.

I love drawing expressions. The bodies sometimes not nearly as much as the faces - I just have this thing for moods and emotions and sometimes when I draw, I even make the faces, or the sounds I associate with those faces (giggling, gasping, etc.) XD

Awww, thank you! I live in Hungary, and learnt all my English there during classes and watching Cartoon Network while it was still good (no joke), but I have been to England and the U.S. for a few weeks.

And once again, awww. <3 I hope I will! That would be awesome.

No it's my pleasure!

Very clever, again. Gozaburo would be the type to be that sadistic. And people wonder why Kaiba's a major prick in his teen years! I'm excited to read the final product; I wish I spoke Hungarian so I could read it sooner!

Expressions... I'm constantly looking in the mirror to try and replicate the general idea. Also I've been told by a friend that I make an exaggerated version of the expression I'm drawing, on my own face. Hm, I dunno, something weird about me.

Dang, that's amazing! You're incredibly adept at the language, I'll say that. You didn't go to an immersion school or anything? Wow! If only I had learned Spanish like that! You'd think being fluent in French, it would be easy for me to learn Spanish, but whenever I speak Spanish it's in a French accent. I fail

I'm sure you will! I'll be rooting for you.

Yes, people often misread, or rather, do not take the time to interpret Seto Kaiba's character - to think of him as just a jerk does no justice to his character as an abused child, an older brother, a father figure to Mokuba, a CEO with powerful enemies and a former champion who had lost a title he rightfully earned. So many layers it's mind-boggling, really! I don't often dwell on his relationship with Gozaburo, because it depresses me, but when I had to contemplate it, this was how I saw it, and again, I'm so glad it made sense, because others didn't like my theory at all. XD

I turn to the mirror for postures and gestures if I can't bend my own legs and arms at the angle I want to draw. XD The faces are easier, inasmuch as I watched so many cartoons and loved the reaction shots so much that I usually know what I'm going for. XD You are not weird - I do that too. ;D

I went to a regular school, where my drawing was not much appreciated, but they did like my English and let me slack in English class. XD ...And then my teacher took the credit. Bashtard. XD I've learnt Spanish too, but I never got it past low-intermediate knowledge because of personal issues with it. My friend knows how you feel, though - she's learning French and wants to learn Spanish, and when I make her read something aloud, she does it in a French accent, and I think it's adorable. XD

And yaaay! Cheer for me, ahahahaha! XD Love ya. XD

Kaiba's always had a soft side to him, he just doesn't dare show it lest the world take advantage of him - or at least that's how I've always seen him, anyway.

I, too, hope I can finish the story someday. It's definitely forming in my head, I just haven't found the right words yet.

Awww - you are too kind! Thank you for the encouragement!

Unfortunately, the series didn't really include moments when Kaiba's soft side could truly shine, since he was almost always in constant conflict - I sometimes wish they would have included at least a few brief scenes of normalcy, but since this is all we have, I keep hunting for those little moments that we did get, like Mokuba sleeping with Seto's coat draped over him, or Kaiba smiling at his little brother's encouraging words. <3 I'm a softy. XD

One of the moments I always remember is Kaiba throwing Mokuba onto the blimp when the water fortress was falling back into the sea in season 3. I loved how he thought of his little brothers safety before himself

I loved that scene, too. I was also awed by their embrace when they were finally united back at Pegasus's castle (probably their longest tender moment in the show), when they hugged after they were returned to their normal state in the virtual world, and Kaiba's desperation when he screamed "Mokuba, open your eyes!" as Mokuba was fading out of the virtual world and coming around in the virtual pod. So many great little moments. <3

Yeah, Kaiba may seem like a cold shell, but it's only when Mokuba's around that he shows that side of him.
Looking back on the programme, I realise I might have been to hasty to dislike him when I was younger
He's just awesome

die-einzelganger In reply to XxLuulagoocallagasxX [2011-11-19 18:53:54 +0000 UTC]

Kaiba is pretty tragic in that he doesn't dare or allow himself to show genuine affection to Mokuba when others are around - probably because he wants his tough facade to serve as a shield for both himself, his little brother and his company, and he has to look impenetrable and unbreakable to protect what he lives for, but luckily, there are these little moments to remind us that he cares very deeply, and for all his harsh acting, he does have a heart. ...No wonder he's my favorite. He and Mokuba were pretty much the best thing in the series for me. They are both awesome! <3

Awww, do I? I do dwell on his character a lot, because of the stories I have in my head and I'm trying to write, and he's probably the most interesting character in the series because of all the issues, quirks and interesting moments he has. I'm glad to hear that you're liking him more and more - if I've helped, I'm honored.

I just read the drabble you wrote and I loved it! It's sad but also very beautiful and just goes so well with this drawing.
I really like how you drew their eyes, they just show so much emotion, the younger one's are so innocent and the older one's show a lot of regret.. It's simply amazing.
I was a bit surprised when I saw this, though. I guess I'm just used to your art being funny and well, this just caught me off guard. Not in a bad way though! It's great that you can draw and write both funny and sad moments.
I hope you'll continue that drabble someday, I'd really like to read more.
Aaand I'm gonna stop myself now before I get a chance to go on a mini rant about this (well, more then I already have ).

First of all, thank you for the kind words! I'm very happy that you liked both the drawing and the drabble - both are close to my heart, and your "mini rant" put a smile on my face.

I was hoping that I could, somehow separate it from the rest of my gallery by putting it in a separate folder, but from the looks of it, only upgraded accounts are allowed to showcase separate folders on the front page, so it ended up sitting among my funnies like a cuckoo's egg... oh well.

I would like to continue the drabble, and expand it both ways to show what led up to it and what came from it... how I'm going to do it though is not very clear in my head right now. Either way I hope I will - I like working with moods and emotions.

Thank you again for your comment!
