Cryptix23 [2010-10-30 03:13:23 +0000 UTC]

I... there's something about Lestrade's pose in panel 7 that just... I don't even know, but it's amazing. It makes him look tiny and elegant and thoughtful and squee all at once.

N'awww, Lestrade, you're plenty bright. It's not your fault if Holmes can run circles around you most of the time. He does that with everybody. <3

Devilry In reply to Cryptix23 [2010-10-30 21:16:54 +0000 UTC]

I think I re-drew Lestrade in the window like four times, so I'm glad it worked out alright in the end! THose four adjectives is exactly what I was aiming for.

Cryptix23 In reply to Devilry [2010-11-01 20:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, your tiny-elegant-thoughtful-squee Lestrade turned out perfectly, then. ;D

Also! What I said in another comment about the hair, you're right that in the earlier episodes he does slick it back (albeit still parted to the side), but in the post-Hiatus SIXN (my usual reference episode for him), he has the front-wave. I think it looks better than the slick, m'self.

There's a good number of example clips in this vid, which I watch pretty much every time I settle down to write or draw Lestrade (and which you might also enjoy): [link]

OMG! Lestrade is sooooo adorable in this one! He's so tiny and cute! I just want to squeeze him!!! Poor Watson. He misses Holmes so much. Am I the only one that thinks Holmes was a bastard for leaving Watson like that? Anyway, great comic!!!!!!

Devilry In reply to mikerowe [2010-06-22 19:32:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Yes, Holmes faking his own death was not a kind thing to do, but at least it gives ample opportunity for Watson and Lestrade to know each other better...

Oh that comparative panel in the middle is so well planned. I do enjoy the parallels you've put into the images. And Lestrade's thinking face is priceless.

Cheers! That is from Watson's POW of course, he can't help but to compare his two friends.. Yup, Lestrade's fighting face is very...intense.

Ooooh I adore you for making this comic!
There is so much I love about it, but I especially like the way you draw Lestrade
And I just fell in love with that Lestrade-Holmes comparison panel, it's pure genius!

The only bad thing about it is that now you made me want to read Watson/Lestrade slash and I can't find any (except for maybe three fanfics that I've already read) .

So I'm really looking forward to the next page ^^.

Hola!
I'm loving your comic so far! I like how you've progressed through trying different styles from the beginning to now. Looks like you've settled on something that really works for you!
I love your comparisons between Lestroud and Holmes on this page! What a great way to show it!
Loving it and looking forward to the next page. keep it up!

Holy crap I waited until now to say this but I absolutely adore your work on this comic! Really it's a fantastic project and I can't wait to read more of it.
I was so inspired I began to attempt a comic in a similarly high-contrast style using lots of dark colors. However I'm stuck on the method I should use to paint shading etc. Could you offer some suggestions?
Thanks so much! Fabulous work!

Devilry In reply to iAes [2010-02-11 20:24:31 +0000 UTC]

Wow, thanks! That's so nice to hear.
Hmm suggestions about shading.. it's good to do that in a separate Multiply layer in Photoshop so you can change it around w/o messing up the drawing. You could go for two-three shades of gray and just dish it out with a round brush set to 25-30% opacity, or go for all black 100%! If you do black you can create an area of a dotted/lined/crosshatch pattern and then use the Clone brush to pick the pattern up and add it where you want it in your shading layer. That way you don't have to dot a huuge area.. I used that on Watson's jacket in this page! Hope that helps!

Devilry In reply to iAes [2010-02-21 17:15:19 +0000 UTC]

As the title suggests, that is very subtle.. But it's a good start! Try more forceful shading, since it's digital you can always re-do it.

I am loving this, and I love that you have used Les I wish there was more of him in the brett version of Holmes.

And the style of this is so awesome HELL if it were a graphic novel I woulda sooooo bought it today!

one of my fave moments with Les in was when he told Holmes that they were proud of him down at scotland yard, man the way they both pulled that scene, it was so touching that I had to watch it again.

Really awesome work I look very forward to the next installment ^_^

Devilry In reply to Idigoddpairings [2010-02-13 14:20:53 +0000 UTC]

Yup he is hot.. Not in a conventional way though, with the ferret face and the lack of eyebrows...but who cares about conventional?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Idigoddpairings In reply to Devilry [2010-02-13 23:13:39 +0000 UTC]

Mmmm well john c reilly is'nt obviously hot but in the vampires assistant I found him pretty attractive, and john turturro because he was very funny in Transformers two and had personality I found him kinda attractive in that to, of course I like some obviously hot guys but I also like very interesting ones like David bowie and christopher walken, Lestrade is just another one of those guys that have a pretty nice voice and just something about him.

And you really brought that something about him to your comic so very good work

Your style though is seriously amazing, I envy you and your patience , seriously I couldn't do something as beautiful as these pages really I just love them ^_^

Thundertori [2010-02-01 04:25:51 +0000 UTC]

I really enjoy this comic, Lestrade is drawn so cutely. Keep up with your work until the end, and I will keep reading. ^_^
Oh, and self publishing should not be too much trouble as some publishers can make custome size books. But that is here in the US, I am not sure about self-publishing in Sweden.
But when you do complete this story, take a chance to get it published 'cause I belive it will attract attention ^_^

Devilry In reply to Thundertori [2010-02-06 22:36:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you're a willing reader. I got the whole thing crawling around inside my head, so I at least have the ambition to put it all down in Photoshop... and if I like the outcome and can find a publisher that does odd formats then I might just go ahead. Thanks for your encouragement!

I love this comic, and can't wait for more!!!
But, Watson said "he HAD thoughts of everyone." Does this mean that Holmes is supposedly dead here?

P.S. I see every bit of Colin in your Lestrade. DD And, am I wrong, or you draw Watson by David Burke?

Devilry In reply to DowneyFan [2010-01-31 17:07:21 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, and thanks for all the s!!
Yup, this is taking place between "The Final Problem" and "The Empty House", ie after Holmes have supposedly died in the Reichenbach Falls.

Yes, Lestrade is all Colin. Watson is a little bit of Burke, a smidgen of Law, and the rest I just made up.
