Description Here's a basic coloring tutorial using lineart by Renmazuo [link] I know this is really basic, but I figure I should start from the really basic steps and move on to more complex steps. Everyone's gotta start somewhere, and this tutorial is for them! ^_^

I just first started to do coloring in Photoshop and this has helped me so dang much instead of just laying layers and using the brush to color. Thank you so much for the quick tips!!~

This is helping a ton, but I have a question, I'm new at this and I want to know the difference between some or all the layers. If you could tell me I would really appreciated.

This is really, good...i didn't even know you were supposed to use the expand when using the star wand. Thanks for sharing this good news

Sorry for the belated reply. Yeah ... it's a little trick I learned long ago. Simple, but it goes a long way to making art look cleaner and more professional.

Es de muy buena ayuda para lso que recien empeizan a usar el Photoshop (como yo xD) ya me habΓas comentado que nos abias mucho espaΓ±ol y el problema es que yo no se escribir muy bien en ingles pero si lo leo perfectamente XDD

Ooo ... I don't really know much Spanish. My interpretation is that you said something about someone being good/not good at using Photoshop (like me) and that you're commenting in Spanish because you don't know much English. Of course, if that's the case, you'll have no idea what I'm writing either XD

Mucho gracias por les commento (?) (Hopefully I didn't just swear at you or something ... I just kinda made that last part up ;

You do some outstanding work!!! Also, you've taught me some tricks that I didn't know and I've been using Photoshop for years!!!

Thanx!

Thanks, Cap! You're from OMU, right? Nice to see you on dA. Photoshop's pretty convoluted. I'm sure I only know about 10% of what it can really do XD

capntsubasa In reply to deviantbluebug [2007-03-23 22:14:02 +0000 UTC]

BB,
Yup that's me... It's good to see you here as well! You've got an exceptional gallery. Nice stuff!

One thing I didn't quite understand in the tutes was how you used linear dodge... I'm in the process of finishing a piece and am working on the skin and clothes highlights and couldn't get it to work... Oh well.

Anyway, thanx for the tips and for the tutorials!
Cap

deviantbluebug In reply to capntsubasa [2007-03-23 22:53:18 +0000 UTC]

Well, the easiest way is to use the eyedropper tool to pick up your base color. Then make a new layer and set that layer to "linear dodge". Then paint on that layer. If it's too bright, you can alter the layer's opacity.

jamesstarrunner [2007-03-07 03:32:20 +0000 UTC]

Ack! All this time I could have coloured things much faster! Thanks bb! ^_^

deviantbluebug In reply to jamesstarrunner [2007-03-07 04:33:25 +0000 UTC]

Haha. Yeah, I figured out this trick a long time ago ... because I was driven by laziness XD I couldn't believe how many people just used the paintbrush to color in the base colors. It takes way too long.

daddysir [2007-02-28 23:23:27 +0000 UTC]

I feel the same way. Some I know but that expand the wand tip is just some of the many things I don't know!

Thank you for sharing your info. I'm incredibly lazy so I do read other tutorials because most are so much better than I. Your tuts are gonna make me even more lazy!

deviantbluebug In reply to daddysir [2007-03-01 00:57:06 +0000 UTC]

Yup, it's always nice to accumulate the best tips from many tutorials. I did that plus a lot of experimentation.

You're welcome. It seems like there's a lot of people who start coloring on Photoshop who don't know this trick. But it's so easy and can make a world of difference, so I wanted to share

I don't know that wand tool can be very useful

Badlucksneezes2 In reply to deviantbluebug [2007-02-27 15:23:19 +0000 UTC]

oh man that was so nice of you and that really would be accurate to say I asked my boyfriend what it was when I first wanted to try and since then ( like everybody else ) I've just been figuring it out as I go along. But I often found that the trick you have on here was something I'd always be running into. so hooray for your tutorial it is SPIFFY!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

deviantbluebug In reply to Badlucksneezes2 [2007-02-28 04:56:48 +0000 UTC]

It's rather fun to figure out things on your own. I think that's why I don't usually don't read tutorials (that and I'm lazy XD). But sometimes little tips can go a long way. So the occasional tutorial I find helpful. Glad you find my tutorial useful. If you use it to color something, please send me a link so I can link back to it ^_^

I haven't drawn something all that impressive in quite some time....but I am a tutorial collector so when I see spiffy tricks I grab em' ( I.E. yours )
If I get around to doing something new I will most definitely think of you :]
