I posted one picture of a cosplay at a convention.
it DOUBLEs in views my page's views for all my other work
if that makes sense.
it wasn't me, I didnt help with the outfit, I dont even know the person, I just put it up because its a cool outfit.

I agree completely. The only reason half of them have so many page views is "OMGGG SASUKE <3<3<3<3 ^_^"
While I do admit some fanart/fanfics are good... They are overrated. Eheh.

I have a whole bunch of original characters who get no notice (I don't care yet, I haven't published anything for reals). But when I uploaded a short comic about Rorschach to my scraps, I got thirty fav's on it in the first day.
I UNDERSTAND THIS ALL TOO WELL.

It happened to me that I submitted something Naruto related ages ago, only 1 thing, and it's almost the only thing that gets faves, it really really sucks, there are beautiful non-fanart things... why do they only fave that ugly drawing?

*sucks* is a point of view, not a fact.
Pageviews are meaningless, and you shouldn't let them get to you.
Sorry to hear its bugging you however, you clearly aren't alone.

You shouldn't let someones amount of page views get to you. It is just a website, I'm sure if your talent is better than theirs then it will get recognized sometime, even if not online.

I totally agree. If someone spends five minutes drawing a crappy picture on MS Paint of a pikachu, it gets hundreds of faves. If I spend 8 hours on a pretty decent pencil drawing, it gets like... ten. -__-

XD You don't have to like it. Draw something Naruto themed, even if it isn't, and put lots of <3's in the comments and Naruto in the keywords. You will get your much deserved acknowledgement.

Well, people will type it in the search bar.
It is annoying though, there's good fan art, and there's bad fan art. Why does the bad fan art have more views/faves than art creating from imagination?
Search bar.

Agreed!
I put my whole heart into anything I do, and it usually goes unrecognised. Probably 'cause I'm no good, pah! So I'll usually get about 2/3 favourites if I'm lucky that day. And then I see people how do little doodles of fanart (and most of the time they arn't even good) and get TONS of recognition! It's not fair.
I will defend those people who do spend hours and hours on a piece of absolutley amazing fanart, because there are some people out there who are very talented at it.

I just disabled my PV counter... it's like a drug, and it's better not to see it, it helps in not being conditioned when trying to be critic towards other's art. Before, I sometimes judged people based on their PVs, and I recognize it's not nice to have preconceptions.

no need to feel terrible. I feel the same way when super crappy photography gets a lot of comments. hell I even get mad when MY less than fabulous photos get more credit than my stuff that is actually artistic.

I agree. It actually makes me sad that people fave one of my very old fanart works. I don't do many, and it was just ONE. So I began making tags as stupid things like "skdfjsldkjflkj".. because I hate how they focus on ONE old work and none of the others.

Me too. I really really understand people who draw well and just choose to do fanart, and they kinda deserve the pageviews.
But the bad ones are just depressing to see...

fudging [2009-07-17 00:52:37 +0000 UTC]
My aspiration is to create the strength of characters that gets a fanbase that forceful. Make characters who people give so much of a damn about that it gets the same sort of aura. Create a series where people can get worked into the creation, so they start wishing a coupling would happen, read it two, three, four times, or want to spend more time with them than is actually available in official material.
I have no opinion on fanart. There is a huge audience for it. It gives credit to the original authors.
I want to be the original creator. Success is harder. And if it's managed, it unquestionably puts you above any imitator.
I'm aspirational, but what's life without dreams?

Personally, I'm jealous of those people that draw fan art. Because I am incapable of drawing fan art, I always feel like I am betraying the characters, that's why I have created my own. I guess that for some people it is that opposite.

On an old account of mine, most of my pageviews were from fanart.
Five second, badly colored fan art.
I got around 30,000 pageviews.
Then I went to this account because I realized how much I hated having those pageviews, just for horrible fanart.

Pageviews mean absolute shit.
Those people might be getting page views for being utter wankers, not because people think their art is any good.

Art is art.. All art is inspired somehow,, fanartist just openly express where their insparation comes from.. It isn't fair to dislike or vilify them because people like it and it's good..
