Description
Since I was struggling with doing normal art of my OCs, I decided to give this meme a try after spotting someone else doing it on DA. It sounded fun and I was the kind of kid who grew up drawing what I saw on tv to practice. I decided to use my red-headed original character Zivek. I haven't posted any art of him before (mostly because they've all been doodles and not worth posting), but he's been around for quite a while. You'll probably note that there isn't a single shot of him smiling. The reason for this is that he never smiles. If he is smiling, he has done something evil or is about to. He is a bastard and almost always looks annoyed. While it isn't shown completely in every shot, he also has a tattoo of a connected waxing and waning crescent moon on his neck. The tattoo marks him as being mated and to which clan.

Anyway, I decided to keep each shot of him in about the same position for my own reasons. I switched a few of the original meme style suggestions, too. And, save for one of the series, I only tried to keep with the style of the show/comic. I didn't feel like drawing Zivek as a ninja or holding a zanpakto or something.

Naruto = Oddly, this took a while to do. ... mostly because I started look through manga pages to get a feel for the style and then found myself catching up on all the chapters I missed. And I haven't read Naruto in a looooooong time. I didn't want to draw him as a youth, so I had some trouble finding an adult character that might share Zivek's head shape and facial features that wouldn't make him look too young. In the end I studied Hidan, and, to a lesser extent, Iruka. I don't really care for how it ended up. I thought about starting over, but in the end I found I didn't hate it, it just wasn't as close to Kishimoto's style as I would have liked. Ignore the empty space.

Danny Phantom = This one was interesting to come up with. I studied the characters, mostly Vlad and a little bit Dark Danny Phantom. From there I put this together. I gotta say that it is weird and funny and wrong. Zivek doesn't look like he's enjoying his current look.

South Park = Apparently Zivek is Canadian? I just didn't feel like drawing him as a stout South Park youth and from that point I randomly decided to go with the Canada-look from the show. ... It's... bizarre. Simplest of the squares to draw.

Simpsons = I didn't have much trouble here. I used to draw Simpsons characters in my youth, and then other people as Simpsons characters. It took a little while to re-familiarize myself with the different character designs since I haven't watched it much in the last few years, used a giant group picture to get a feel, and then went at it. Took only one try. Another weird drawing.

Bleach = In the original meme this square was for One Piece. But I don't read/watch One Piece. I tried looking over the characters, but really couldn't do it. So I switched it out with Bleach. I've read/watched more of that series to know what to do. Once again I found myself catching up on the manga, though. This style turned out to be pretty easy to do. However, I can point out certain areas of the pic that I don't believe are quite Kubo's style

Marvel = I thought about several more current artists, but couldn't decide. Finally I decided to go with Steve Ditko. I remember reading those early Spider-Man comics at the library and that really helped get me into superhero comic books. It was hard to do, as Zivek really doesn't have a look that translates well into that style. It's passable, though.

Disney = AHHHHHH KILL IT WITH FIRE! No, but seriously... it's creepy. I actually had trouble finding actual pics from the movies of the various Disney "princes". Lots of fanart, but not a lot of screenshots. Eventually I just focused the search on Prince Eric from Little Mermaid and used the style from that film (my first Disney movie). I don't like how it turned out. I tried doing a more frowny look, but it started to look less Disney-ish. So I went with a neutral expression. The only Disney movie I ever tried to draw on my own at any time in my life was Lion King, and Zivek would have mauled me if I drew him as an animal. ...again. >_>;;

Dragonball Z = Yeah, I know there is a lot of white space. I accidentally drew small. Anyway, I have some experience drawing DBZ, so this wasn't that hard either. While I think I succeeded in making Zivek look DBZ-ish, I don't like how it looks.

Venture Brothers = Guess which character I referenced for this one?! I don't like the hair, but possibly because it doesn't look like it works in the style of the show. I just couldn't think of a way to make it work. Again, this looks weird and I started to lose Zivek.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann = Originally this square was for Daria, but that was way to easy and dull. I didn't want to do it, so I tossed it out. At random, I picked Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I don't think it turned out right. I tried several times, but I don't think I succeeded in getting the style right in in the version you see above. Zivek looked good and I didn't want to erase it, though. You might be able to tell I studied Kamina to get the look.

Slayers = This square used to be for Dr. Seuss, but I just couldn't do it. It was wrong. WRONG! I couldn't put my murderous bastard into my childhood books. Too creepy to imagine him as some Who down in Whoville. So instead I went with one of my first anime series and still my most favorite, Slayers, drawn by Rui Araizumi. I had a little trouble at first moving Zivek into that style, but I think I did a decent job. I studied Valgaav and Gourry to get the look right. And I had plenty of artbooks to flip through to get the style into my head. There are a few things I'd change, but... eh. It works.

Chibi = I don't claim to be good at Chibis. Even Zivek thinks I suck.

Invader ZIM = Again, I didn't want to draw Zivek as a youth. Since there are hardly any adults in Zim that aren't covered up or bizarre looking, I had to move into JtHM to help get Zivek's look. This style was pretty easy to do once I became more familiar with the art. The hard part was finding decent images on the net to study. I nearly gave up and changed the square to some other series.

Gargoyles = This box used to be for Nightmare Before Christmas, but I had no flipping clue how I was going to do that. I wasn't going to draw Zivek as Jack Skellington or Sally. So I switched it for Gargoyles. Fun fun. I really just picked that show to have the excuse to draw Zivek as a Gargoyle. If I ever drew him again as a Gargoyle, I believe I'd alter some things, like the horns. I know I didn't get the style just as it was on the show, but I think it's pretty close while making sure he still looked enough like Zivek.

Realism = Eh, not as real as I could have gone. It's okay, but not great. Since I'm not very good at shadows, especially when drawing digitally, I chose not to go that far. I probably would have butchered it. For some reason the profile reminds me of someone. But I wasn't using anyone in particular to draw this.

My Style = Yep, back to my crappy style. >___>;

I thought about coloring this, but changed my mind. Maybe if I get bored one day, but this took longer than I thought it would already.
