And since I'm submitting Henry VIII's wifes in their proper order this time, it's wife number 4's turn: Anne of Cleves.She may not have been the most glamorous of the 6, but I honestly don't believe she was ugly enough to warrant The Flandish Mare label Henry gave here (what a dreamboat, wasn't he?).

You know, I don't think it's fair, because Anne of Cleves was really kind and caring and all that and people only remeber her for being ugly! And she wasn't even all that ugly anyway! Grr...

Oh, no! I agree with you as well! And, from my experience dealing with fellow Tudor-fans, it's actually the usual opinion! The reason she doesn't get the same level of love/interest as other wives is because she kind of was the wife-that-wasn't-really-wife and her story isn't quite as glamorous or drama-filled as others.
But, whichever the reasons, the mare references are generally ignored and Henry is always seen as the jerk in her story.
