Soviet Light tank t-26 was a unique fighting machine though much underestimated especially in light of his others famous armoured brothers. This machine was at dawn of development Russian armoured force and gave much valuable experience. In addition, it holds the second place as the most produced soviet tank of the 1930-40’s. Moreover it could be in a Guinness Record Book as a machine with a great number of modification made on its base (more than 20 production versions) not to mention many experimental.
T-26 was a real Red Army workhorse of the 1930-40s and took part in many battles.

I liked the T-46 version of this tank but alas they only made 40 due to expenses.

I agree, T-46 looks and interesting. Moreover the mobility was improved. If you like it you probably heard about similar project T-25. Since the armor was thickening it was necessary to improve running gear. Many projects for further T-26 improvements were abolished due to their inexpediencies. (war coming, costs, engine problems, inappropriate armor, etc) However many ideas were later implemented in other machines, including T-34.
At first I considered T-26 as a kind of ugly waste piece of crap (in my childhood) but it turned out to be a tank lab where many things were tested. This machine was a very considerable step in Russian tank evolution. And I find this machine really good-looking.
