Girly? Psh, there's nothing girly about rocking out to department store music in the storage room!
(unless said dep. store music happened to be yon song lyrics. If that were the case I'd have to say FOR SHAME, YOSUKE, FOR SHAAAME.)

DUDE THAT IS SO COOL OMG
I love the pose so much <333
i think it's pretty in character that yosuke would hold a guitar like that
And the lettering is fabulous!

Sweet! Yousuke on a bass! (Support all the way, dude!)
Yes, you're right - that pose is not conducive to playing, unless you're just air-playing - but the whole thing has got a very cool presentational vibe to it. I could imagine this being a poster for a rock band on campus or something - "Rock out with UltraViolet on Saturday! ¥500 at the door w/student ID." ... I also picture somebody snapping this pose with a camera, and then Yousuke - because he's Yousuke - immediately falling backward over his amp cable.
But this shot really could be anybody playing rock star, and it's that make-believe, look-at-me quality that I like about it, regardless that it's featuring one of my favorite characters.
Nice coloring, especially on the bass body! (Now I wish I'd gotten the transparent red alther body for myself!) I notice he's a leftie, too, based on this presentation. (Perhaps a little bit of McCartney influence in there?)
The character's lines are goofy, but in a good way - they "feel" really fluid and in the moment, which is good for a piece/pose like this.
Lately, your work's been reminding me a lot of a couple of different comics artists: notably Farel Dalrymple, Eric Canete, and Giuseppe Camuncoli. You're not exactly like any one of them, of course, but I get the feel of them through your lines, inks, and colors. There's this kind of vibrant, moment in time immediacy to a lot of them that's going beyond portraits and poses and instead heading into something of a storytelling stance. Taking this piece as an example, I kind of want to know what happens before to create this situation, and what happens after. There was also a piece you did from TWEWY, with two of the characters walking down the street, having a conversation. I wanted to know what that conversation was ABOUT, just from the way that they were standing together.
...or maybe I'm just adding my own biases as a writer.
Anyway, lots of fun! (And sorry I rambled on, there....)

....crap I knew I forgot something. The AMP CABLE. Oh man. Uh, let's just pretend that's a life-sized and really pretty guitar heroes/rock band instrument type of thing.
I'm in the habit of tl;dr-ing myself, so don't apologize! I like reading what you have to say. In fact, allow me to toss you a lengthy reply in return!
Okay, to clear a few things: I know nothing about guitars, so the bass thing wasn't intentional. Er, just like the left-hand thing wasn't intentional (man, you pick up a lot of things in these silly ideas of mine xD). In my head, I was thinking: "I want to draw Yosuke! In a crazy pose! Holding a guitar! IN BRIGHT CRAZY COLORS!!!" Real simple and, well, not very planned. haha... I grabbed the first interesting reference picture I could find on google and used that as basis for the instrument. Which, I guess, turned out to be a bass, huh? The thought of Yosuke as a bass player is interesting though. I always figured him to be more of a lead guitar type.
My ignoranceeee, I'm not familiar with any of those artists so I had to google theeeem. (Ooh, I see a lot of Spiderman~) But this is good, keep them coming. I really need to learn more about these kinds of artists.
Backstories! Everybody should love them! And again, I have to say that I love that you pointed that out. What you're seeing is probably a manifestation of my attempt at the phrase "a picture says a thousand words"-- or storytelling, you could say. Stories will always be a part of what I do. I have tons of respect for anyone who can tell a story; I'm pretty bad at it, the verbal kind, and I'm still at average when it comes to writing. So I'm currently practicing myself in visual storytelling.
I can't say I have anything solid (story-wise) that I think about whenever I draw, but I like keeping the what ifs floating around in my head to remind me of the angle I'm going for. And the angle for this one was "Maybe Yosuke entertains thoughts of being a rockstar" XDDDD He's probably fantasizing in one of the storage areas at Junes -- I mean, the place sells everything, right? So maybe some instruments came in the latest delivery and he was there to sign them in. Random stuff like that.
It's so much easier to draw them than to write them, but you lose things to the limitations. I mean, I'm not that great at doing comics yet (plus I'm freaking lazy UGH), so I'm limited to this one picture and the audience's imagination. I can't exactly tell the story I personally want to tell. If it were a fanfic, I could lay down the foundation myself... So yes. Win some, lose some.
By the way, I saw you put a story up recently. Is it spoiler-free to where I'm at in the game? (Haha, look at the length of this!)

Actually, I could absolutely see Yousuke sneaking over to an instruments section in Junes and just pretending to rock out. In some ways, he does feel like he wants to be a lead guitar type (and I try to touch on that in my characterization of him), but I've always considered him more of a bass (support) kind of guy. Just a personal preference, though. (And probably due in no small part that I'm a bassist, too. Ha!)
And, I'm pretty sure that he's harbored at more than one point in his life the desire to be a rock star.
I don't mean to put more work on you with any of these comments; just that I see backstories and the like in your work. I mean it as a compliment, believe me!
Always love seeing your stuff!
Oh, as for the two most recent stories:
"6/The One Girl" is just a conversation between Souji and Yousuke that takes place near the end of Souji's stay in Inaba, but only to give it some sense of urgency. No plot spoilers.
"7/Melt Away" takes place on Yousuke's 18th birthday, but it could just as easily take place during June of gametime (except then he'd be turning 17, and that's not quite as momentous an age).
I don't give away any plot points of the game in either of them...just conversations between friends.
