The groom tugged once, twice, trice…nothing happened…He started to pull…hard…his face getting more and more red…the horse didn’t budge…frozen solid to the ground, eyes locked at the journalists and photographers. If he was scared frozen, unable to move from the weird black things, the flashes, the big crowd itself?

No…He stood there, almost in a very fashionable show horse pose, head and neck raised and it almost seemed like he had lined himself up so the sun that was shining through thin clouds hit his coppery hide just the right way. He had done a marvellous season, winning four of eight starts. However…the colt was on his way to retirement, thankfully not to injuries like his father. No…he had started to loose interest for running…sure he ran, did what the jockey asked, but at the end of the season it was clear… Boat ran and won only to get in the centre of attention and to have people admire him. When he had lost it had been when his eyes had caught the flashes of cameras and he slowed down "for a better picture". He saw himself as the star with a capital S and one might say he was acting like a diva. The feed he got wasn’t good enough even if it was the same he got at home, and there he ate it like a pig (very bad table manners!). Blankets they put on he bit holes in, for reasons we really can’t guess why, but they had something that didn’t fit his highness despite the fact it was the ones he had worn many times. At workouts he simply forgot the exercise rider if he spotted a crowd of people. Then his light fluid strides changed and it was like he was moving in syrup. They might have come to admire him – why would he run past them then?

Finally, roughly ten minuets later the herd of journalists had gotten what they wanted and dispersed, looking for other horses and people. Boat looked with longing after them and neighed. His groom took his chance and tugged the lead. This time the colt followed; his head hanging low. Clearly sadden over the fact that the photo session – for this time – was over.
