...And that's how the arcade game "Strider" begins.
Sure the first game has a totally different looking Hiryu (No scarf, no ninja...shoes? XD) but of course he looks more bad ass this way.
1989 was the year the first Strider was released with tons of ports on different platforms, but the Sega Genesis one was by far the more accurate one.

I have the Japanese Version of this game and it can play on the U.S. System... but.... that version DOESN'T HAVE ANY Continues, so Japan's is a lot more harder.
