Sometimes Monster

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster tongue
And monster wing.
I fly away
And on some days,
I try to break most things.

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster fangs
And monster claws.
I don't have words,
Just ugly curds
Of growls that fall from monster jaws.

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster hopes
And monster fears.
Nobody near me,
Alone in a sea
Of stinging salt from monster tears.

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster scales
And monster heart.
I push people away,
Having no words to say,
While I crack and fall apart.

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster feet
And monster face.
I sit and ponder, now tell me who,
(Was it me or was it you)
Changed me in the first place?

I become a monster sometimes,
With monster hair
And monster thoughts.
Sad, weak and sore,
I can't tell anymore
If I've turned back to a person or not.

So I'm afraid that's what I really am.
