Description Now here's the close up of the Cuban Crocodile's head from that same visit. This guy has always been my favorite animal to check out in the Toledo Zoo Reptile House along with the Chinese Alligator for many reasons. The Cuban croc exhibit is very well-lit and among other factors makes it very easy to spot the crocodile and photograph him.

Location: Toledo Zoo Reptile House. Toledo, Ohio.
Date Taken: June 10th, 2012.

Crocodylus rhombifer

Aw... he's yawning XD

We've got Chinese Alligators at the SD zoo too. They're really small.

Cooling himself off is what it looks like. Chinese Alligators are fairly common in captivity, and the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio is another zoo in my state alongside Toledo Zoo to have them, only difference is that Cincinnati has multiple Chinese Alligators versus the one that Toledo Zoo has.

Thank you! It is one of my favorite pictures I've taken of this Cuban Crocodile at the Toledo Zoo. During my visit to Cleveland over the past two days, I got to photograph two new crocodilian species, the Indian Gharial and West African Dwar Crocodile.

Since then, I've seen a lot more crocodilian species including a saltwater crocodile.

He didn't move, but he was definitely awake alright as you can tell by his gaping mouth here. They do that to keep cool, much like a dog does. The Chinese Alligator was much more active and swam around in his tank for at least a minute or two before he came to rest as you will see when I upload my latest Chinese Alligator pictures.

So cool.... that crocodile has the cleanest teeth I've ever seen on an adult croc before XD (Obviously it's because of its great health care at the zoo).

Yep this croc certainly has a great team of dentists in the Toledo Zoo reptile house to clean his teeth when need be. I take it you've seen other adult crocs at other zoos that didn't have teeth nearly as clean as the Cuban Crocodile in my picture here? The Chinese Alligator's teeth looked pretty clean to me as well, but that little squirt is helped by the fact he's in a completely water-filled tank.

Sadly, I haven't really seen adult crocodiles in zoos (the zoo I go to a lot only has a dwarf crocodile that just sits with its mouth closed almost all the time), but I used to watch that Crocodile Hunter Diaries TV show, and from what I remember their teeth were not always that clean looking, and of course the wild ones on things like Planet Earth and other documentaries don't have very clean teeth XD

I'm still awaiting my chance to see Baru go out of the water completely on a future visit.

Big teeth to snatch up whatever food his keepers decide to offer him, like rats for instance.
