Next up in my summer project, the Farthing Wood Fox. The original fox in the series, the leader of the animals etc etc etc. I've drawn him how he is in the 1st series, when he was a proud, strong, happy character, not the miserable, whinging, horrible character of the 2nd and 3rd series. Leadership obviously came at a price.

I'm not too fond of Fox, I must admit. He's a terribly dull character, fitting into the necessary 'hero-leader-macho man' role that every series seems to need to have. I would even go so far as to say that he's not even a very good leader, considering the amount of time he spends telling other farthing animals to 'shut up', especially his children. And I could never forgive him for giving the leadership to Plucky instead of Ranger (even Friendly would have been a better choice).

But maybe I'm being a little harsh. After all, Fox's daughter Dreamer was killed, and he never really made things up with his son Bold before he died. I know many people blame Fox for Bold's death, but I disagree. Bold would have left the park sooner or later due to his own headstrong nature. At least Fox managed to get the animals to the park safely, even if he failed to protect them during Scarface's reign of terror and during the invasion of the rats.

But anyway, this is Fox. And despite the bad things I've said about him, he's still the famous, original, one and only Farthing Fox. Drawn and coloured, as always, with watercolour pencils.

Quote of choice: "We've got to face facts old son. As a community together, we're all but finished here. Man, and his machines, have seen to that." (Series 1)
