Description It was extremely hot out that day. The sun beat down without a cloud in sight. The children cracked eggs on the sidewalks to watch them fry. It was days like this that Amber Hunter hated the most. It sucked the energy from her and the fun from everything else. She didn't even read! Her favorite documentaries held no entertainment and she just sat in front of her fan. No one had called or texted her all day. Maybe they were doing the same thing as her or had already made plans. It didn't really affect her. She took a sip of water that she had next to her, only to spill it when the phone rang. It startled her to say the least.

The caller turned out to be Kankri Vantas, a very good friend of hers, also crush. "Hello Amber. I am sorry if my sudden call had triggered you. I hope that I am not to much of a bother. To get back to the point I was wondering if you would join me at the amusement park."

Amber thought for a second and decided to join him, she had nothing else planned anyway. "Yeah sure. Do you want to meet me here or there?" she asked him.

"I will meet you there." he said and hung up.

What was she going to wear? She thought of it as a date, it wasn't officially but it was close enough. Right? She looked around her room for clothes that would look nice, but not kill her in this heat. She decided on Capri pants and a red top. It looked nice. When she was officially ready there was nothing to do but wait for his arrival. Maybe she would make something cool for him. He was probably going to walk. Amber began to cut some lemons, after turning on the television. She didn't notice that the knife was dangerously close to her finger. She made one more cut that nicked her finger and she dropped the knife. The lemon was quickly placed on the table. Kankri arrived and knocked on the door. As she held her bleeding hand she opened the door. "Hello- What happened to your hand?" he asked as he noticed the blood trickling down her palm.

"This? It was nothing. I was cutting some lemons and I didn't notice the knife." Amber said.

"I will find you something for it." he said. He has known Amber for so long that he pretty much knew where everything was.

Amber sat herself down in a chair, trying to keep the blood from staining her clothes or dripping onto the carpet. He eventually returned with bandages. He took her hand and began to clean the blood off and neatly placed the bandage on the cut. "You ready to head out now?" he asked her.

Amber tried to hide her blush and answered, "Yeah sure. Let's go." When they stepped out and locked the door they began their walk to the amusement park, occasionally passing a few lemonade stands. It seems that everyone had the same idea.

The amusement park was quite busy, seeing as it was opening day and Amber was afraid that Kankri wouldn't enjoy himself, since he has quite an array of 'triggers'. She was usually very cautious so she didn't upset him in any way but people could be rude. At first he just viewed the surrounding area and Amber looked for lines that were shorter than the rest. "What would you like to go on first Amber?" he asked her. "If you want to go on a ride that is." he added.

"How about that one." Amber said as she pointed to The Octopus. The Octopus was a large machine that carried the riders up into the air and spun them around. Many people were known to get sick on this one.

"I guess so. If that is what you want." Kankri said as he got on. These seats could hold two people at once so they sat next to each other. The ride started off slowly but you could tell that the passengers didn't fancy the thought of leaving the ground. The higher they went, the faster they went. Kankri, not used to this, shut his eyes and balled up his fists. He eventually released a sound similar to that of a shriek. Amber had no idea it was possible. She tried to calm him down but nothing worked. Except for when the ride was over. She could have sworn that he was going to get sick. He was silently thankful when the ride came to a stop. "Amber. Why did you not warn me that those things could be so...triggering?" he asked her.

"I told you people can get sick on them." Amber reminded him. "How about we find something to eat? All the lines for the other rides are pretty long anyway." she asked Kankri.

"Sure." he answered her. She took the lead and he followed close behind. As he was behind her he began to think about how kind she was towards him. People usually grew sick of him or annoyed by him. She has stayed with him for a long while. in fact, he had grown red feelings for her. He had first suspected this a while back when she had stayed over at his wriggling day party. Sure there were a few others but they didn't seem to actually want to be there, Amber did. She was always courteous of others to and tried to help them out as often as possible. He normally didn't find people like that.

"Kankri? Are you okay?" Amber asked as she patted on his shoulder.

"What? Yes." He told her and smiled.

She didn't look convinced but didn't want to bug him with it. "What do you want to eat?" she asked him.

"How about ice cream? If you want to that is. It is hot out so I thought that it would be the best." he told her.

She told him to follow and they went off in search of ice cream. At first he was keeping up with her but the crowds seem to get bigger and even more chaotic. He eventually got held back and lost track of her. He hoped that he could find her, it couldn't be that hard, could it? As they walked through the crowd Amber thought that he was right behind her. He wasn't talking though. "Be careful." she said to no one as they went through the crowd. When she made it through she turned around to find that he wasn't there. "Kankri! Where are you?" Amber yelled out. She began to retrace her steps. He was probably just as worried as she was. How hard could it be to find a troll in a red turtleneck in this heat?

Kankri figured that the best thing to do would be to find the ice cream vendor. She was probably there waiting for him. As he made it to the vendor he frowned when he saw that she wasn't there. He took a seat at a table and didn't order. Hopefully she would find her way here. He was worried about her safety, the world can be a dangerous place after all.

Amber kept looking around the rides trying to find him, but there was no sign of him. She thought about asking others for help but those that she asked had no idea where he was or never saw him. She was concerned about his well-being. Maybe he was at the vendor area. She hoped so.

"Kankri!" she called out once again. She was back in the area where she lost him but he wasn't there. Maybe he was closer to the vendor area. He was probably waiting for her. She rushed to the ice cream vendor in hopes that he would be there. She smiled when she saw the familiar red turtleneck. "I found you!" Amber called out. She held out her arms, waiting for permission. He gave a nod and she wrapped her arms around him, enjoying the small amount of close contact she could have with him. He usually didn't allow people to do this so she was thankful that she could. He coughed which was the signal to stop. He tried to hide his blush. He honestly didn't mind, liked actually, when she hugged him.

"Still in the mood for ice cream or has us losing each other caused a loss in appetite?" He asked her in new found confidence.

"I am still in the mood." Amber told him while grinning. "What flavor do you want?" she asked him.

"Cherry please." he answered.

With ice cream in hand Amber and Kankri sat down at one of the tables and spent for what seemed like hours talking. Kankri noticed that everyone was leaving. There were a few visitors left so it wasn't officially closed. "Do you want to ride one more ride before we go?" Amber asked him, "You can choose."

He looked around, probably for one that wouldn't throw the passengers like the one before had. "How about that one? If you don't mind." he told her as he pointed to the Ferris wheel. She nodded and threw the trash away. He held out his hand. "I don't want to risk losing you again." he explained, he was angled away to hide any form of embarrassment. In return Amber put her hand in his shoulder and gripped lightly. She smiled and looked away. They took their seats and slowly began their ascent.

"I hope that you had a nice time, besides the losing each other part." Amber said to Kankri.

He didn't answer at first but eventually replied with, "I did, actually. Spending time with you is actually less triggering than with others. I actually hope that you will spend time with me more often, but only if you want to."

She blushed at the compliment and scooted her hand to the middle of the seat, hoping that he would catch the hint. He slid his hand over so that his fingers came in contact with hers. The ride was shorter than both of them would have liked but it was time to leave. They walked home, hands coming in contact from time to time. When they had made it to Amber's home he held his arms out and asked, "May I please have a hug?" She smiled and wrapped her arms around him, releasing quickly. "I will see you later." he promised her. Their relationship would grow from here, slowly but surely. She didn't mind the pace, it worked for both of them. When he left she noted that the temperature had dropped rapidly. It was weird that she had not taken note of it. She shut the door, ready to sleep from the events that day.
