Description The only source of light was the flickering of candles. The occasional peep from a bird could be heard. Today was a birthday. Gilbert was turning 29 and he invited everyone. However, no one came. Not one person came to his party, not even his own brother. Not that he cared or anything. He had lots of fun alone. Who wouldn't want to be alone? Besides, he still had his pet, Gilbird. He was awesome. The large cake would sadly go to waste, the decorations would go unnoticed, and he would sleep throughout the entire day but it was nothing new, not these days. He knew that the people he called his friends found him annoying. Who would want to go to the party of someone so loud anyway? He didn't want to be alone. He kept smiling though, holding on to the hope that maybe someone would make it. Someone would remember him. He blew out the candles, and the room went completely dark.

You knew that you were forgetting something. It was bugging you all day but you haven't asked anyone about it. You were sure that it was nothing. Something did worry you though. Gilbert wasn't online right now, which was weird but figured that he was out with someone. You frowned as you imagined him out on a date with someone, but knew that since he did seem to love partying that people would be interested in him. He wouldn't notice you, an introvert who disliked big parties like the ones he threw a lot. You sent Ludwig a text to see where Gil was. You quickly got a reply about Gil staying home today. He also felt as though he was forgetting something. You would drop by later on.

He was sprawled out on the couch, staring at the wall. He already wrote in his diary, no a journal, enough today. It was still nice to write about how awesome he was. He was frowning, thinking about the others. How did they all forget? He was certain that he sent invites. Did they detest him that much? These thoughts were unlike the ones he normally had but he couldn't help it. It hurt sometimes. He did have one close friend that he knew he could count on. (Name). (Name) always had his back and attempted to join in on his awesome parties. He knew how much they didn't really like huge crowds. How could (Name) forget? He thought that maybe (Name) was the one. He had been with others before but none of them were looking for a real relationship. It was fun while it lasted was a very popular quote with them. He hated it.

Today was not your day was it. Your vehicle would not start and your bike had a flat. Gil's house was quite a bit away on foot. At least the weather wasn't bad. You began your trek to his home, in your hand was a small package. He had given you a gift a while ago so you thought that you would repay him. You thought of your relationship. You two started off a bit rocky, your first impression was that he was a self-absorbed a-hole. He may claim that he is awesome a lot but you knew that he was sensitive, in a sense. You had found one of his diaries and read an entry. He mentioned being lonely. You frowned at the thought of him being anything but joyful, it just wasn't him.

He curled up into a ball. His thoughts blurred together. This always happened when he was alone, forgotten. The thought of disappearing forever scared him. He knew others that had disappeared he had written them down so they wouldn't be forgotten. He hoped his efforts in writing down things everyday would let his memory live on. He was afraid of death, what would happen to him. He was a nation. Well, he wasn't. Not anymore. Sometimes when people bring it up he feels pain. The others would have to miss him. Right? Did he not have a reason for still being here? Was this some kind of sick joke? Did some unknown force want to torture him with these thoughts? He would be able to see Old Fritz. He grinned when he thought of it. Would he be proud? Would he be ashamed of him? Would (Name) miss him as much as he would miss them? He dragged himself up, wiping any tears that stuck to his face. He was awesome. He just had to remember that. HE was the awesome Prussia and no one else. That is what made him special. And look at Germany, he raised him and he turned out great. He would make a great parent. That is what he liked to think. But what if he wasn't? Death could happen to anyone. What if the child were to die? Never mind. He moved to the library where some of his diaries were. He turned to the latest entry:
Guess who is awesome? I am!
No one came today but that is okay, I suppose.
I have had more thoughts on my purpose. So far no answer.

You finally made it to the large home. The garden was pretty, you had helped Gilbert pull out weeds. Ludwig also helped sometimes but he liked to be in the kitchen. You admired all the pretty flowers, your favorite flower was planted right in the middle. You walked up the steps and knocked on the door before letting yourself in. You flicked on the lights, you had no idea why they were off in the first place, and your jaw dropped when you saw the decorations. It was his birthday and you forgot. You felt horrible. Why was no one else here? He was alone on his birthday. You set your gift on the coffee table and went to try and find him.

Gilbert sunk down to the floor, watching Gilbird attempt to make him laugh. He honestly didn't feel like it though. Why was it so hard to be happy these days? He heard the knocking on the door and saw the lights flick on. Who was here? He pushed himself upon and ran to the hall. He saw someone move to the kitchen. He began to move quickly. While he was making it over to you, you were looking a the many decorations. Did he do this himself? You wondered about how much time it took. You turned when you heard him enter the room. You went in for a hug. "I am sorry that I missed your birthday! I forgot! I am a really crappy friend!" you began to cry into his shoulder. You looked up and noticed that his eyes were still wet, like he had been crying.

"it's okay! The awesome me can have lots of fun by myself! Gilbird and I were having loads of fun!" he exclaimed. You turned to Watch Gilbird who was indeed having the time of his life with a toy of his. You did not believe him though when he said he was having fun.

"I am going to make it up to you." you told him. "That is what friends are for."

The word friend raced through his mind. Were you two good friends or more? You two were certainly affectionate towards each other but no one tried to take it to the next level. He was actually quite shy when it came to that kind of thing with you. "I am going to call the others. They might have forgotten as well so it would be best to remind them." you said.

"How about we just spend time together? It ha been a while since we have spent time together, alone that is." he quickly said. Trying not to blush at the thought of being alone with him you agreed and moved to the couch with him. He turned on the television, but left it on mute. He wanted to talk to you. "How did you know?" he asked in a quiet tone.

"Know what?" you asked him, trying to think of what he was asking.

He brushed the hair out your face, his fingers felt coo against your skin. You were blushing madly at this point. "That I didn't like being lonely." he stared at you, his sharp red orbs bore into your own (e/c) ones.

"Well, I know I wouldn't want to be forgotten or alone so I imagine that you wouldn't either. Also, I had seen an entry that you wrote a while back." you told him trying to find something to look at besides him. He thought for a second then pulled you into his lap, his arms wrapped around you and he nuzzled into your neck.

"Kesesese!" he began to laugh, "So you have a gift for me right?" You grabbed the package on the table and handed it to him. You had no idea that i was actually his birthday so the gift wasn't as fantastic as the normal gifts but you thought it was still nice. With a few quick tears at the wrapping paper he managed to open the gift. Inside was a small doll in the shape of a bird, it was made from a fabric you had found that had the same colors as the Prussian Flag. "Awesome!" he cheered! "What do you think?" he asked Gilbird. he answered with a loud chirp. You smiled as he sat the plush bird on your shoulder. "Awesome fit!" he told you.

"Indeed." you told him, "Anyway, there is something I would like to ask of you."

"Oh? Yeah sure." he told you.

"Stay with me forever okay." you said, trying to be as serious as ever.

"You know I will! This awesome me wouldn't do as something as dumb as leave you!" he said. Forever. He liked the sound of that. It was what he was looking for. He was truly happy. It was a welcome change.
