These crystals are actually cleaved portions of fluorite that are shaped into octahedrons. Octahedral fluorite certainly exists, but it's popular for miners to take actual fluorite crystals and carve them up into these shapes by taking advantage of fluorite's perfect cleavage. So really, these "crystals" are already "damaged" so to speak. The surface of these crystals are smooth and lustrous which shows that those aren't actually the outer edges of the actual fluorite crystal.Creating these fluorite octahedrons are popular because they're easily marketable in places like gift shops.I had about 4 of these since I was a kid and I literally sold them last weekend because they just don't fit the criteria to be in my collection anymore.

Yeah, but it's still fluorite. It's another reason why I mainly go after stuff still on the matrix. I used to be such a sucker for crystals like these XD I do still like these for the color and I'll probably still keep them even after I get better specimens. It'll probably be something I'll pass on to my kids one day to get them started on their own collections
