This is a pencil sketch of the Twilight movie poster.It took me two weeks to do everything but Bella's hair. Then suddenly I got into the zone (technically) last night (it is 1:06am now, lol) & finished her hair in less than four hours.
This is excellent news because today is the Earth Day festival in Columbia, Missouri. I am going to have a booth at it for the 5th year in a row!
I will be selling prints of some of my sketches, all the jewelry (that I make) that I have in stock, some fleece scarves I made up, & a few odds & ends.Anyway, back to the sketch. The actual sketch is 7in x 10in. I used graphite pencils, shading sticks, & a kneaded eraser. I learned several new things while working on this piece. Such as generally the lightest parts of the body are the tips of the finger nails, the finger nails, the inner lower lid of the eye, & anywhere that is highlighted by bright light in the reference picture.
My scanner is not the best so there are random area's where the black parts reflected the scanner's light & created odd highlights that aren't actually there. Sigh.
I wanted more detail in the clothing but got in a bit of a hurry & gave up. Bella's hair was absolutely evil. I am still not happy with it but I am content with this piece for the moment. I love how Edward's eye turned out! I'm even pleased with Bella's hand especially compared to the disaster Edward's was in the last piece, lol.
Edit: The annoying lines I couldn't erase in the middle of Bella's face & Edward's nose are actually face crayon my 2 year old daughter used to scribble on my sketch with. I was able to get rid of most of it with water & Q-tips.

Girlfriend, you're getting too good. Look at our Edward and Bella...gorgeous shading, highlighting, hair strands. Even the clothes have remarkable detail, especially Edward's jacket.
Don't smack me. But I want to give you some hints on getting face details and balance, which I have trouble with too. This'll help. Make light guidelines that match with your reference. That's what helped me with the perspective in my Van pic. If you want more info., My email is catluckey@hotmail.com. I hope it's okay to put this info here.

The Edward and Bella reference is from Twilight CD soundtrack. Hope it's accurate.
You've got Edward to a "T". We'll adventure to your beautiful Bella.
1. Hair - esquisite
2. General outline of facial shape - SPOT ON!
3. Jacket - wonderful
Inside Bella's face
Eyebrows - sortof lined or shaped like Edward...not as rounded. Eyebrow not in shade left edge dips a dot too far into bridge of nose...teeny weeny bit.
Eyes - Eye away from Edward: Whites to the eye not in shadow is larger, but shading makes white look smaller. Eye isn't as rounded. Darker shading above and beneath makes it look longer almond shaped.
Eye closer to Edward is in more shade, barely any white showing. Check on reference for spacing, then apply scaled spacing...can do with guidelines, seeing where they land on page. Wish I was standing with you, I could show you. Also there's a general anatomy of facial parts placement to the head. Memorizing that helps with features of different people.
Nose - nice job! Noses are very hard for me to do.
Mouth - That is extremely hard. Bella's lips are a bit large, sharpen the lines and make smaller. You do need more space between bottom of nose and top of lip for the philtrum-those vertical lines.
You can find balance in a pic by drawing guidelines on the reference (even if you have to photocopy it) and then light guidelines on your drawing paper. I hate doing scale lines or using scaled paper. If you need help with vectors/perspective, the thing I found helpful in my clueless ways is to draw the slant guideline on the object, then dot the top beginning for place and dot the lower ending. That's for objects. Transfer that to your drawing space, but it needs to balance with your picture.
For facial/portraits...a few guidelines on pic and a scrutinizing eye helps.
Sounds like too much work. But whatever way you find helpful, grab it. I learned this technique in Audio Visual Dept. at Univ. of Omaha in NE through my supervisor. He showed me those tips that took away my fright of measuring.

I have more info on scaling from my former Audio Visual supervisor. It's how to double or triple the size of a picture onto your paper without measuring tape/ruler or tracing. Let me know if you want to know about that. It'll take up too much room in this reply.

Oh wow! I don't know when you got that good! That's absolutely incredible. It almost looks like you just used a pencil filter on the poster in photoshop. Great job.

I didn't even know Photoshop had a pencil filter, lol. I only have Gimp & I don't know if it does or not. My reference image was huge, almost 4000 x 3000 pixels & almost constantly viewed at 400% zoom, lol. I really wanted it to look detailed. I think I must be a masochist. XD
