Well they are. I never would have thought of having a fish use it's spine-fins instead of it's tail for swimming. But it's brilliant.

As usual, your ideas and execution are both wonderful! I'm intrigued by that gill design, too, and the tentacles of course! They look like reverse barbels!

It pumps in water much like a ray does and it passes through gills of a sort and then out through the pores in the sides.
I'd like to get more technical but my brain has gone to mush due to all the moving house I'm doing

The tentacles are very sensitive at the tips and do have a barbel like function in that they can taste the water.
Also the Xanathus is a suction feeder.

The fins are very strange. Nice colours!

Thanks, strange is what I was after the fins are more like tentacles.

I meant the fins on the back mainly. They remind me of something, but I still don't know what.

You surely know this feeling, when something seems familiar to you, but you have no clue why.

I do know that feeling. I'm not sure there is a word for it in English.

Maybe the word is "senile dementia".

Just like an upside down elephant fish! Except with tentacles and segmented fins.

I am shamed to say I don't know much about jawless fishes gills, but you are right it does have a jawless fish vibe.
