Took a few minutes prior to starting to think about what I wanted to do, what I wanted to focus on, and what kind of visual set up might best help emphasize the theme. Originally the character was gonna be shooting a beam into a big baddie, disintegrating chunks of it, but as I started along I had a feeling that I wouldn't have time to fully execute that to my satisfaction so I opted to keep it just the single character and single action.

I kinda don't like the extra wispy parts along the outer parts of the beam, I think it kind of gives it too loose of a feel, less focused and 'beam'-like, but on the flipside I think it's kinda cool-looking. Added a few small clusters of stars here and there to help seal the idea that this was at night and not an unnatural darkness.

One little effect I did like was applying the layer mask to a color dodge layer in the beam and then doing a motion blur vertically, then transforming that out a bit so that there was some spillover down across the arm. That was fun
