Those are argon glow lamps. They need 350v to light up (purple), and they get too hot to touch when running. Not seen very often anymore.

sorry for the late reply - Its hard getting on sometimes. I actually got a bunch of vacuum tubes from a cousin of my dad's GF who did/does radio repair. Then i found a shop that had some in their basement.
I lurk around a lot of hardware stores (the Older the Better) and check out surplus. And sometimes, i will find a place that makes weird/interesting stuff - usually in Europe and order some.

cool observation Slight! One of the guys here finally asked me about a necklace i was wearing and said: I can't help but think that has to be some kind of light! Then he was blown away by the fact that *yes* it was a light! lol

I like blending genres too, steampunk and dieselpunk mostly, but I like what you're doing with the steam/cyber.
