art is intellectual property. when it's created the person who created it is granted a copyright on it. that protects their rights to their own work. if they want to make a living selling it and making commissions making it for others it's their right to do so and make sure nothing interferes with that right. if they wish to share it, it's their right, and their right to limit HOW it is shared. they even have the right to say they are the only ones who can share it and if you want others to see it you have to go to where they, the artist, uploaded it.
additionally, deviantArt's rules state this is a site for users to upload artwork their made THRU THEIR OWN EFFORT to. they clearly state that uploading artwork made by people other than yourself, or artwork that uses stuff made by others unless you obtain permission to use it or it is under a Creative Commons license that allows it, is against the rules of this site. by breaking those rules you could wind up getting your account banned.
this is especially true if the true artist of anything you've uploaded gets involved. if they ask and you don't remove it they are well within their rights to report you to the site mods for art theft. they're even well within their rights to report you for it WITHOUT asking first.
and remember; just because something is online doesn't mean it's free to use. people bank online, too, you know, and if someone happens to get into another's online banking account it doesn't mean it's okay to use the money inside it. so just because you find another's artwork online it doesn't mean it's free to use as you feel like either.
