Well, perhaps soon you'll give it a try. I'll be posting a video of how this drawing was made within a few days, so maybe that'll give you some ideas.

Light shades aren't that difficult, really. Scribble with some charcoal on a scrap piece of paper and then rub your finger in it. Use your finger to apply the charcoal dust to your drawing and voila! Lighter shades.
