Description
Another of Alex Casteels, aka Bionic7. [link]I did this one not especially because it was my first choice, but because I've seen so many others floating around out there. Wanted to right a wrong, so to speak... or something like that.
I think it could have come out better.
16" x 20" on 90 lb. paper. Charcoal.

i'm still trying to figure ot wether if it's good or not to be recognized by almost everyone...
I once had my '15 minutes of fame' but by the wrong means... i mean, it wasn't meant to happen...
I look at this pic and i instantly know who he is, but i don't even know WHO he is...

As for people actually knowing who you are by your face, I know what you mean. It's one of the reasons why I don't have a userID. I don't want people looking at me and, perhaps if they think I'm pretty or something, like my art 'better' because it's created by an attractive person. As far as Alex Casteels is concerned, he uses himself in his artwork. It's his trademark. Good or bad? I think it's served him well so far. But that all boils down to personal style.

superb piece, i love the contrast and tonal range. the composition itself is nice too i think, and you've captured the likeness of the modle seemlingly brilliantly. I love the hair castading across the face, this piece has movement

Thank you. When I finished this I didn't really like it. For whatever reason I feel like I didn't do the picture quite the justice it deserved, but I've been told differently time and time again. I suppose I'm just being too critical.

Beautiful soft shading and I like the contrast of the black hair against the light face, it has a great effect.

I think you did it as good as you can do that picture... in other words I like your style and execution but I don't like the picture, it has always pissed me off in some way.

I had always liked it... until... I enlarged it. That isn't a reflection on your work, just... I don't know. I have no idea how suddenly I was like... 'eh, why's this picture bugging me?' But I did it anyway because I said I would, and again, it's that whole 'righting a wrong' thing where everyone and their mother had butchered it in some way. I still might tweak it a little bit because there's something about it that's grating on my nerves like crazy. Maybe the eye. Maybe the mouth. Hell, I have no idea. I spent a good hour and a half going 'wtf is wrong with it?' But then I took a digital shot of it and pulled it up directly next to the original and it looked damn close... so I don't know. Maybe I'm being overly critical. Maybe we both are.
