Someone should’ve told me beforehand how fucking hard it is to draw decent realistic looking hooves XD this was a damn struggle! And Hope’s still look a little off… I’m practicing okay XD

But onto the drawing! (So sorry for the long text in advance…)

I saw a lot of headcanons where Amore is Cadence’s mother I can definitely see why. But now get ready for; Radiant Hope being Cadence’s ancestor! Not mother. Just maybe like great-great-grandmother or however many generations lie in between 1.000 years.

But before we get into that story, let’s dive into some crystal pony lore! Cause there are so things to unpack!

✧ The crystal pony norm ✧

- Neither horns nor wings. Tall, thin statue, thing fur. Tail like that of pureblood unicorns. Lots of markings and swirls in the fur. Split hooves. Sparkling when the magic is “activated”.
- The Cutie Mark stretches over a pony’s body whoever they strengthen or expand their special ability. That’s an occurrence that isn’t seen in any other pony species.
- Very cold resistant due to them living in very cold temperatures.
- Special connection to the crystal heart and it’s powers.

✧ The crystal unicorns ✧

- They have crescent shaped horns, adding to their unique look.
- Pretty rare, used to be mostly royal, almost extinct.

- Deep connection to the crystal heart and its powers and generally the power of love and every sub-magics connected to it.

- Said connection makes their magic very unpredictable and powerful and could have a lot of side effects. Many crystal unicorns used to be sick or otherwise limited in their health at a very young age, leading to many restraining their powers (or mostly the parents restraining with power of their children) and with that cutting off from that deep connection. That being a quite normal thing to do in the time before Sombras conquest, lead to the crystal unicorns being so rare.

✧ Crystal Magic ✧

- I actually won’t say too much in this one since there’s gonna be a whole story of how it all came to be and roughly how it’s connected and everything. So I don’t want to spoil too much. But I will say;
- The magic of the crystal ponies comes from the crystal heart. It’s a special connection that is given down genetically from generation to generation. The stronger the magic energy in a pony, the deeper the connection. This connection makes them sparkle and glow just like the crystal heart.
- History says, that Princess Amore created the Crystal Heart to protect the crystal empire. That is not entirely true.
- The crystal heart is a prime example of perfectly balanced magic with little to no side effects. But it is not the only type of “crystal magic” out there. The roots of that magic comes from many different types that all come down to one term. Love magic. And the rest is spoilers ;b

✧ Radiant Hope ✧

- Hope’s story is pretty similar to the one in the comics about Sombras backstory. She grew up in a children’s home, meeting Sombra and becoming best friends with him. They grew up together with him being sick every crystal festival, while the heart was in full power.
- Hope was one of very few crystal unicorns having absolutely no problem with, well, being a crystal unicorn growing up. And also later when she earned her Cutie Mark she was able to channel her magic pretty well. Because of that her powers weren’t restrained and she kept her connection.
- Princess had a VERY close eye on those two foals, on Hope as well as on Sombra. Regarding Sombra, I’m gonna dive into his story separately but for Hope, she had some wildly powerful ancestors. One of them being an old acquaintance of Amore. And, because of spoilers, let’s say they didn’t part well. And that this certain ancestor had a tube impact on the crystal empire overall.

- When Sombra took over the crystal empire, Hope ran off to ask the neighbor kingdom for help. Equestria. And when Celestial and Luna went to take Sombra down, she was still there. And she didn’t disappear with her whole empire for 1000 years.
- After her home was gone, she refused the studies as a princess under Celestia and Luna and instead tried to find her own path.

- She eventually settled down in a little pegasus town at the corner of Equestria, where no one knew her name. She constantly tried to fill in the gab that the lost of her home and her best friend/lover had left but was never really able to. She started a few relationships with some locals but it never stuck. She did have a kid with her temporary boyfriend but she ended up giving the child away to a foster family. What she didn’t know was how impactful her crystal genes and powers were that she gave off to the child. And to many following generations to come.
- She left a few years after settling down, making it her mission to find the shattered crystal pieces of Amore and try to get her back together. The chance was slim and perhaps it would take a lifetime but she had nothing left to loose. So she began her journey. And only the stars know were it lead her and if she’d ever return…

✧ Cadence ✧

- Hope’s only child may have been a mistake but Cadence was certainly not. She grew up with loving pegasus parents and a whole lot of attention, being the first natural born alicorn in Equestria.
- And a fact that no one was aware of, was that the almost seemingly impossible occurrence occurred. That Hope’s crystal genes reached down generations and that Cadence indeed had crystal connection energy. One indicator that probably played a huge part on her turning out a alicorn, in a village full of pegasi. It was a true miracle.
- And even though Cadence doesn’t really resemble her ancestor, she has a deep connection to her, continuing the legacy of crystal unicorns, even without knowing.

- But before she returns to her roots and becomes the rightful princess of the crystal empire, there is one or two things to deal with regarding this connection. Because there’s one more pony out there with knowledge and magic of that sort. And a lot more control. And she seeks for love…
