While I admit this was a nice movie, I didn't like the plot, it's the same thing over again.
That and I don't think this should be called a 'sci-fi', it's more of a science fantasy (don't get me wrong though, thats one of my favourite sub-genres) because most of the creatures in the film looked to similar to ours. The cgi wasn't good enough to convince me that it wasn't cgi (mainly because they are blue cats!). So yeah, nice movie, bad plot for me.

I really hate how Avatar is automatically "overrated" because it's environmental.

Sorry to here that about that person laughing at an inapropriate time. However, I like the stamp, nice job.

I think I have an answer to the laughing thing.
One answer is that we in the West express grief in one way, and the Na'vi apparently don't. The clash puts them off balance.
Another answer is that it came off as kind of goofy on screen. It's a tension-destroying force called "Narm", and it plagues movies from all ages.

Yeah, the only issue I have is that a lot of people who loved the movie came out and in roleplays and stuff went on and on and on about EVIL SKY PEOPLE! There are no good sky people! The sky people are horrible and cruel and evil and can't be trusted! Kill them all! Excuse me. The main character was a sky person. MOST of the main characters were sky people. There are good sky people.
But I freaking loved the movie. As usual, it's the FANBASE that's stupid.

No, as I said, it's the fanbase. -sighs- Mind, we're not exactly a pretty race either, we humans, but to be honest, no race is. Not humans, not animals, not even trees, which must overshadow and murder all those weaker than it so that it can reach the sun. I don't believe that the Na'vi are - collectively - better than the Sky People. They just have different, opposing virtues.

What the heck? WHY would someone laugh when the Hometree fell? Are they sadistic or something? Apparently, the message within the movie couldn't go through their brains. That movie was beyond brilliant. If that kind of world really existed on Pandora, I would go and get out of here (Earth). Like Jake said, we - the human race - have killed our mother. When I walked out of the IMAX theater, I ended up just bashing at the human race. What kind of people are we? Why do we do the things we do? Sometimes I just wonder how cities would look like without all the cement and buildings.. Sorry for ranting in the comment.. I'm listening to the score from the movie and these emotions just come out. Anyway, great stamp. I just wish Pandora was a real world.. But I believe it is; it's just in a parallel universe.

I like this film, i went to see this twice in the cinema and got it on Blu-Ray, it is a huge breakthrough for CGI and in high-def it is STUNNING on my 32" 1080p TV!
I get the message, i see how monstrous and selfish we are (that's why i am going into an animal welfare career cuz it breaks my heart of what we do to our planet), so this film got to me abit, expecially the part when Grace gets shot and tells Jake, "why should they help us".
The only real thing i don't like is the plot, it is a VERY over-used clichΓ©. Also, the film is WAYYYYY too long, nearly 3 HOURS, jeez.
When I heard about them making it into a trilogy, i was very annoyed, because i think they are going to ruin it and they should just leave it be.

Someone LAUGHED?! Such heartless people. Yeah, it's a movie, not real, but except for a few parts it was no comedy. Maybe ignorance is bliss, but I am appalled that they weren't considering how that could feel if they were in that position. How could they not be empathetic for the Na'vi? What if their own home was taken away right in front of them? *shakes head*
(Rant aside, a favorite from me! May I use this?)

I don't think it would have gone well if someone had laughed in the theatre when I was there. >.>
Then again, I've been so drawn into the movie, I don't think I've paid attention to the other people much at all.

*sighing dreamily* He is perfect, whatever species he is at the time. For me, seeing Hometree and the Na'vi turning their heads to see it fall, and just the act of everything together was just...I don't know how to put into words. Very powerful.

Hmm, what can be expected from a soldier whose only goal is to wipe out everyone who will hinder him and his commands. And under the Hometree, there was a large deposit of unobtainium - they would destroy it sooner or later.

luismonteiro [2010-01-18 14:42:48 +0000 UTC]
That's really disturbing.. When the Hometree fell was the most painful part of the movie, I don't cry easy, but the angst I felt at that moment... For them, and for us, for what is happening to our world right now.
I guess we just have to be happy that some people get the message.

Chiron178 In reply to luismonteiro [2010-01-19 15:55:44 +0000 UTC]
Exactly. But how many people will understand what the film tries to say? Only those who already know it?
I must say that a film made me cry only one single times in my life and it was when Hometree was falling and I felt as if their pain permeate every bone, muscle and tendon of my body. It was chilling to realize so deeply what we really do to our world - or, at least, ignore and tolerate.

luismonteiro In reply to Chiron178 [2010-01-20 02:03:48 +0000 UTC]
That's true. I think you said it well, people can say they don't do it directly, but we all contribute to it when we "ignore and tolerate".

Daktari92 [2010-01-18 14:38:44 +0000 UTC]
PS: But I fear that not many people will understand the message. When I was in cinema on Avatar and there was the scene where Hometree has been destroyed, some people LAUGHED at how Mo'at cried! Really stupid.
Pfft, that's really lame. I thought it was a beautiful movie, but I sort of hated the human race once I got out of the theater xD
Is it okay if I use this for my stamp collection?
