More of a nostalgic feeling for me. I grew up working in the orchards and hating them. Now I long to go back and do it all agagin

It's a difficult way of life, and what ever you plant now will take time to get a good enough yield to sell. If I remember correctly, it takes a walnut tree (pictured) about 5-10 years after planting to produce a crop.

I figured there was a few years before there would be any sort of crop. Maybe one day. I try to take as much from my moms pecan trees when they produce nuts every other year. Darned squirrels make it hard though.

Pecans only produce every other year?! No wonder they're an expensive nut!

Yep. At least thats with our trees. This is the first year in three that they've produced nuts.

Maybe weather is a factor. then again, back in cali our trees still have produced nuts this year even though the state won't let my dad water the farm.

I'm not sure, our climate is pretty steady here. We get lots of rain in the spring/early summer, then hot and relatively dry in the mid/late summer. Fall and Winter can be fairly wet as well. We aren't exactly sure why they didn't produce last year.
