AAaaaaaand here it is!!!! The digital painting I have been working on for a few weeks now for InkieRose who commissioned me to paint her boyfriend's OC named Andrew. More than half of it was completed yesterday and today. Its like I that quote from Jack London: "You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." That statement has never been more true, this piece just didn't want to get done till I finally snagged the sucker and completed it. YES!I went waaaay overboard on the detail for the background. But once I started I couldn't stop. It was too much fun, especially since I dropped the idea of him walking down a boring hallway and opened the space up so we can see the outside of the castle overlooking the sea. Plus it has that special 'magic hour' shadows you can only get when the sun is close to setting. I've had lost of pieces that I am proud of, but this one by far takes the cake! Its going straight into my portfolio as one of my best works.

And thats exactly how artists grow! Often I've improved through mediums i've enjoyed. Although I must say that I used to hate watercolor! Being a perfectionist I didn't like how I could control how the watercolor turned out. But after a class in Italy junior year of college I discovered that the lack of control I hated is actually the medium's greatest beauty. It's full of surprises and ends up (usually) far better than I could ever plan. Don't be afraid of going back to the basics or trying a new traditional medium. Especially the ones you can't erase or control. Knowing you can't go backward and fix your mistakes only helps you to push forward and improve. Like this cheshfire.deviantart.com/art/C… I used a brush. Everything I learn from traditional work impacts my digital, helping it become more expressive. Also using your hands rather than the computer flows more naturally because that is the medium we first learn on and our artistic 'voice' or style is heard more easily because of it.

Ha thanks! I have the same problem with any painting honestly. I hate that the tip of a brush is not hard and tends to go in way that I didn't want it to. I know I should learn better though so that it improves my digital art, as you stated. Thanks though! And once again, really nice painting!

I absolutely love it and am very happy that you did it haha. I do agree that it is your best work, and I'm very much flattered that it is of something from Rose and I's minds. It's a very inspiring piece, and gives a bit of substance to my ideas
