Description

I drew a bunch of really quick sketches of Sonic characters playing baseball today. Here’s a couple I was experimenting with. I don’t know a thing about this sport (or most sports for that matter) but for some reason I really enjoy seeing fictional characters playing this game! I like watching episodes (or shorts) that take characters from a series we’re familiar with and having them take a break to play baseball (or any other sport for that matter). Very much like Samurai Champloo, FLCL, Simpsons (Homer at the bat), and The Boondocks where the group play the most insane version of Kickball of all time! Even one my favorite Looney Tunes shorts is “Baseball Bugs!”
I know there was an episode in Sonic X where some of the characters played baseball with Eggman and his robots. But the episode (which I was looking forward to at the time) felt very lack luster. Especially compared to the shows/animes I mentioned above. I really wanted to see something extremely zany and over the top. I wanted to see more of the characters personality and abilities show through the way they played the game.
For instance I drew Shadow (at the bottom) winding up a pitch by doing a spindash move (in place) before letting go of the ball. Giving it an insane amount of velocity before throwing it. Does that work in real life physics? No, probably not. But it just the kind of ridiculous fun I would’ve liked to see.
