Juno, a Beluga Whale @ Mystic Aquarium

Drove about 1500km just for Juno!!! lol...
It was amazing seeing him again after such a long time. It was even more amazing to find out just how little has changed. He's much bigger and whiter, but he still has that brilliant personality I remembered. He followed me from one window to the next, playing the "running game" just like he used to. When we reached the last window, I stopped and he gave me this face! Juno is the best!

ARGH why are deviations disappearing from my inbox? D:< I know for sure that this one was in there, and now I wanted to comment on some older work and it is goonneeee. Well, gotta set right some wrong here, then I cannot tell you how much I LOVE and ADORE this shot. Despite perhaps being a bit cheesy on other photos, 'just Juno' really does fit the bill here because this shot shows him in his essence: a big white, beluga goofball And I can't help but giggle at his huge mouth

I saw him yesterday and boy was he annoyed. He didn't like the children at the window. He kept popping his jaws at them. I left because he started stressing ME out... lol

I miss seeing him
He doesn't usually jaw pop as a sign of aggression though. Juno has never been quite "right" if you catch my drift. He's sort of a perpetual child. He learned to jaw pop from the two older females (who do it to show aggression). He started doing it at the window to mimic them (not to be aggressive), and when he saw the way people reacted, it reinforced the behaviour. He just does it to get attention. He's a silly little boy

The colours here are so pretty, I love those dark greens (a nice change from Marineland blue, eh?). What a goofy guy. I love all of the detail in his mouth and those reflection on his skin are incredible.

Thank you! The natural setting at Mystic was a real surprise, so beautiful! He is still a total goof, it was wonderful to see how little has changed with him

He is ridiculously precious! As much as I thought I knew how much I missed him... I realised standing in front of him that I missed him so much more than I though!

Awww! I love this photo! They really keep moving him around, don't they? I wonder why. The clarity and colors in this photo are fantastic and I love seeing anything of him!

Thank you!
They have moved him around quite a bit... I get the impression he wasn't quite what SeaWorld had hoped. He's charming and social, and 100% loveable, but not the smartest whale I've ever met (he seems to take longer to learn new behaviours, and forgets things more often), and as far as I know, he hasn't had any interest in breeding at all. They seem to appreciate him more at Mystic though, which I was very relieved to discover! I always loved him more because of his quirks... he's such a special whale!

Dawww!! I actually did a BIP at SWF with him, so I feel privileged! They did tell us that all of the whales were young, so their behaviors weren't "perfect" yet. The first thing Juno did was pop up, uncued, and spit water all over me! Later in the session, he laid his head in my lap, again uncued, and refused to move despite his trainer's efforts. I thought it was spectacular because it wasn't so staged and typical. He was great!!

That's so cool! I don't think many people had the opportunity to work with Juno there... Klondike and Aurek seemed to become their stars. I don't know that Juno's behaviours will ever be "perfect", but as you learned, he makes up for it with his adorable personality! Must have been amazing to have him just sitting there with his head on your lap

It was incredible!! I loved how it was his own and not choreographed like so many other interactive experiences. It was nearly like literally swimming with a whale on HIS terms, no trainer.
