Description Here is my first attempt at a comic. It is supposed to symbolize how frustrating it can be when no one speaks your language, or even when you have trouble finding others who understand you, physically or emotionally. In the end, the character finally meets his "soulmate" and the tiny flying creatures at the bottom are supposed to be their "children"......of course, everyone assumes that the character just wants ice cream, which works too, i guess....only not as deep

I am in the process of creating my own web comic, which as of right now, will consist of different characters and stories each posting. Still not sure if I want to include words. Everything is still in the works, although, I do plan on posting them online before the page is finished. Please, feel free to share your thoughts, advice, likes, dislikes, anything at all. I am very interested in knowing what you all think. Thanks alot!

I think I would have understood it before I read your description of it, but it is great. Even though you did chop up some of the panels, I think you created what cartoonist CC Beck calle "living breathing characters" (he used a four panel peanuts strip as an example).

Those are all cute little creatures, and I like the food pictures in the speech balloons.

One opinion: i'd mirror the scenes in the second page. Maybe the "surprise effect" on the second scene should be better if the balloon would come first at left (since it's the reading direction), so the reader could "read" it first, then the surprise expression from our friend.
Just my 2 cents, of course. Feel free to disagree
It's a very well done job, congrats!

I'd like to know how to use pencils and color the way you do. Actually, your work is my inspiration and guide on this matter :$

Could you tell us more about the process, the materials you use, this kind of technical stuff? Please?

really? thanks! Well, The first thing would be to have excellent paper...I prefer to use my moleskine sketchbook when using colored pencil, but this particular piece was done on sturdy piece of laser printing paper...so anything, that will help the colored pencil glide.. Another thing, I do not use prismacolor...Lots of people assume, just b/c of the name, that they are good..I prefer to use the more waxy or "creamy" colored pencils...not really sure how to describe it..I used "fantasia" pencils. (The were free from a friend that didnt want them). My point is, expensive does not always mean it is better. I have a very limited palate, so i have to mix the colors quite often. It can take some time, but i try to create several layers (not heavy, of course) of different colors to achieve the color and value i desire. I find it much easier to apply the colored pencil when it is really sharp, or at least freshly sharpened. I don't apply the very tip, unless I am trying to create a texture, but when the pencil is sharp and you apply the side of the point to the paper it tends to glide onto the paper much easier. I also use a gum eraser..they are the best and only eraser you will need. When you apply the colored pencil lightly and slowly, the gum eraser is excellent at fixing any mistakes. After, I scan the drawing, and adjust the brightness and contrast in photoshop, if i feel the need. The main thing to remember, is to relax, and not to think too hard about creating an excellent peice, just have fun and practice. Of course, it also helps to be in the mood to draw. Hopefully this helps you out some. I was thinking about maybe featuring a short "process" piece, and maybe that would help you even more. Well, thanks for taking interest in my work! I totally appreciate all feedback i recieve.

I noticed that you use few colors. I love it. It gets more personal, I don't know...
One problem I have when scanning my pencil drawings is that it always gets too bright, and it washes some colors and traces away. Maybe it's my scanner, that is a quite old. So, I imagine that your originals are much colorfull and stronger than the digital ones we see in here. Am I right?

well, they aren't too much brighter, but there is definitely a difference. the colors are never the same..i even have a real hard time adjusting them in photoshop...but we do what we can, right?
