Thanks! The smudging just happened - I was trying to use black india ink, while using water that was full of gesso from the other project I was working on, and I'm like "ohcrap" because it wasn't as translucent as I wanted, so I rubbed at it, then I'm like "heyyy, looks cool." ^_^ Lotta my work happens like that. Oh crap! Wait, look, it works... Hehe.
