Description Heeeeere's TOOTHLESS! ^_^

I put off making this guy for months on accoun'a bein a chicken; I'd never tried to sew something 3D before, and I don't have the greatest history with sewing machines... so it was a mite daunting O_o

But he was sooooo cuuuuuute and the WalMart plushes were sooooo teeeerrriblllle >_< that eventually I decided to put on my big-girl shoes and try my hand at bringing him to plushie life!

I'm extremely happy with how he turned out - his body is made from polar fleece, his spines & claws are a scaly felt (glued to be double sided), and his eyes are glass accents (the kind made for fish tanks ) painted with enamel and attached with doll joints. He's stuffed with polyfil, with poly pellets in his feets.

I owe thanks to ~Katy-A for the awesome pattern (you wonderful, wonderful woman!) and to ~Monoyasha for inspiring me in the first place (all hail the epic cutenesses that are her dragons :3)

Three cheers for Night Furies!

You did a really great job on it.^^
You can be proud of yourself. :3

I'm making a Toothless plushie, too.
Since I started I wanted to give my plushie eyes like that but I don't know where I can buy them and if not how I could make them myself.
So may I ask you how you made those awesome eyes? :3

Oh man, I just saw this message! Sorry for my delayed reply >_<

I painted a pair of "large glass accents" (a google search will show which kind) with green and black glass paint; then, I attached them to the head with glass glue. Have fun making your toothless!

If you have a couple spare hours, some fleece and some eyeballs, you can! (Katy A's pattern is really easy to use )

I just have a couple questions. First, what size paper did your pattern print? I'm curious because mine printed on 8.5"x11" and I got some glass accents, not really knowing if they will be the right size or not. Second, where did you get the doll joints from? For the life of me I cannot find them anywhere! I haven't even been able to find them on crafting websits, unless I'm looking in the wrong section. Lol. (Most likely, I've never needed doll joints for anything before...) Thanks so much!!

Caty-P-Boots In reply to Kuziifish [2011-02-07 20:16:53 +0000 UTC]

I actually got super lucky with the glass accents - I printed on 8.5X11 as well at 150%, and the eyes happened to be just the right size!

I got the doll joints from Jo Ann Fabrics - but you can actually use anything flat and hard in place of the doll joints; you just need something the glass glue will stick to

(also, I'm sorry it took me so blasted long to respond! I don't pay deviantart nearly as much attention as I ought to >_<)

Hi, it is soooooo amazing!!!! I am wondering did you just print out ~katy-A's pattern onto A4 paper? and how much does it measure? As I kinda wanna make a BIG one but would also like to know how much would it be if I just follow the pattern

thanks~~~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Caty-P-Boots In reply to AshleeeeWinnie [2010-12-09 22:05:15 +0000 UTC]

I think I printed it at 150% for the big one, and at 80% for the smaller one

Caty-P-Boots In reply to animegirl64 [2011-02-07 20:21:09 +0000 UTC]

Hey, sorry I'm so late getting back on here!
You don't actually need to use doll joints - I just used them because they're flat and hard and stick to glass glue; anything which fits that description will do (you could even use another glass accent )

To attach the eyes I just cut a hole in the fleece (slightly smaller than the glass eye itself) exactly where I wanted the eye. Then, I glued the glass eye to the doll joint (flat piece of plastic on the inside of the head) pressing them together for a couple minutes, and voila!

Same, I have an idea, but don't want to attempt without knowing for sure. I also don't want to use any other plush eyes I have foundrfectly round doesn't see, to fit Toothless.

I could not find any good eyes to buy, so I made them - to do the eyes, I painted glass enamel (black and green) on the back of 2 glass accents...

These are the glass accents I used: [link]

And this is the enamel I used: [link]

AGREED. I think httyd got WAY too little love from the masses. Maybe because it was marketed as such a kids' movie?
Either way, it's in my top 5 favorites now

*shuffles foot* shucks, thanks

Download Katy-A's pattern and stitch one up! It's an EXCELLENT pattern, and most of the materials are pretty cheap. Also it's big, big fun to make!

And not to worry, there's no shortage of Toothless love 'round these parts - he is never wanting for attention

two questions;
1. what kind of glass accents did you use for the eyes?
2. Did you swe that by hand or machine?
Nice job, really nice. Wish mine was that neatly sewn

Dang - y'know I looked all up and down my basement for the tag from the bag-o-glass accents, and came up empty :/ Sorry! I can tell you they're oval shaped, about an inch and a half long and flat on the backside (perfect for painting )

I sewed it by machine (to much toil and strife, I must confess O_O)

Thanks muchly for yer praises ^_^

I used these guys: [link]
Hope that helps ^_^

Yeah, I don't know the first thing about creating resin eyes o_O though I'd love to learn someday, I figure the glass ones will work in the meantime...
